Are you an experienced Geography Teacher looking for a full time temporary contract to start 1st September 2008 until May 2009? Can you attend an interview/trial day in the next couple of weeks?......We have just the job!
A large mixed Catholic 11-18 comprehensive school with 1688 pupils on roll is looking for a committed, flexible teacher who can offer KS3 and KS4 Geography, KS5 would be an advantage to join their successful Humanities Department.
There are 832 boys and 856 girls. The sixth form is very large, with 506 students. The school successfully passed its ofsted inspection in March 2006 with an outstanding rating and Beacon Status which was originally awarded back in 1999.
At this High School Humanities embraces History and Geography. These are taught as separate and discrete subjects, by experienced and committed teachers. The school has an excellent record in examinations in both subject areas, with a GCSE pass rate of 94.6% A*-C Geography 2007, 85.7% History 2007 A*-C. This examination success continues at A-level with History and Geography both achieving 100% A-E in the 2007 exam series.
Key Stage 3
One period a week is given to each subject. All pupils follow the National Curriculum programme of study for both subjects. Both areas are well resourced with a variety of textbooks, computer software, video/DVD resources and other teaching material.
Key Stage 4
GCSE History and Geography are popular option choices at GCSE. Students study the AQA specification in Geography and Edexcel specification in History.
Key Stage 5
Both subjects have a good take up rate. Geography examines the physical and human aspects of our environment. The study of History A-level includes Tudor England and Modern European, focussing on Russia.
Resources and Accommodation
Where possible staff have a permanent classroom base, which enables them to develop a sense of History or Geography in their teaching environment for students. Rooms are equipped with TV/ video/ DVD recorders/ OHP/ digital projectors. Staff have their own laptops to utilise software in both subjects.
Teachers of Humanities subjects use a range of teaching styles with the purpose of engaging students fully in learning activities.
