Re: Should Turkey join the EU? - Benn - 07-01-2008

Turks can also become for Europeans something like cheap labour force and employers can benefit of this.

Re: Should Turkey join the EU? - Tamara_Georgia Girl - 08-17-2008

i think the one reason why Turkey is not a member 0f EU is that this country is Muslim, thats why EU is restraining...

Re: Should Turkey join the EU? - Hakan G - 08-17-2008

I agree with Tamara.
We Turks, are ready to join the Europe and we meet all the qualification standards. But Europe is not willing to welcome us because of our religion. Because of this fact, half of the Turks voted negatively in numerous surveys regarding joining the EU, because of the European bad sentiment about us…

Re: Should Turkey join the EU? - Benn - 08-18-2008

Well Hakan, I don't think your government would be happy if vast areas of Christians joined you, the same is the situation with the EU against Turkey.

Re: Should Turkey join the EU? - clearman - 08-18-2008

Yes, turks look like an European people, but their faith, history, traditions belong to Asia.

so if they join the EU, it would come out that they betrayed Asia

I don't really think that the actual political strategy is somehow correlated that deeply with their history. A lot of things changed in Turkey lately.

Re: Should Turkey join the EU? - Faw_Peter - 08-22-2008

Turks should be more loyal to their country and traditions. Asia won't forgive it if it joins the European family.

Re: Should Turkey join the EU? - Steven - 08-28-2008

it probably cares very little about that, Peter. I mean why should they be concerned about what Asia thinks, when they quite well understand all the prospects are found in the West?

Re: Should Turkey join the EU? - Nicholas - 08-30-2008

I don’t think Turkey is that sentimental about Asia, as ex-USSR countries are about the Soviet Russia

Re: Should Turkey join the EU? - Bosnian_realistiK - 10-05-2008

Turkey is great country, with great traditions.
EU could learn some things from their tradition maintance. Cause I think EU countries are losing their traditions slowly.
And of course, EU should join Turkey Smile Smile Smile Smile Smile

Re: Should Turkey join the EU? - romanu' - 10-05-2008

Strict economically speaking, UE can't support Turkey's join.

romanu' Wrote:Strict economically speaking, UE can't support Turkey's join.

Why do you think so?
Turkey has a quite powerful economy, maybe even a stronger one than one of its members.

Re: Should Turkey join the EU? - romanu' - 10-06-2008

I do not want to offend you, but Turkey is a big country, and the financial crisis from America to Europe might take even two or three years after some economic analysts..... :nonnon

Re: Should Turkey join the EU? - Andrewz - 10-06-2008

When a country joins EU it doesn't mean at all that EU is the one which is losing. Yes, apparently it seems so, but practically EU benefits of more advantages than the joined state. These interests are never mentioned by EU. If Europe gets into crisis, I think investors will begin searching for new competitive markets. And why not? Turkey is a good candidate. Certainly, its development is not as fast as China's, but it's also not slow. Turkey textile industry is very good developed. As for the financial market, many things remain to be corrected and raised. Due to Turks' specific character qualities, the financial market seems to be an unrealizable goal. Therefore, investors also have big disadvantages and risks in dealing with the Turkish economy.
The fact that Turkey is not now the European family member is good for it, since the economic crisis doesn't reach it.

Re: Should Turkey join the EU? - Karl.in.eu - 10-15-2008

The recent events can tell us that it is not likely for Turkey to be part of EU any time soon. The country is involved in military actions in its southern regions, at the border of Iraq. Eu will never accept a country with ongoing military operations and unstable security, which is by the way a very good characteristic for that particular region and for the Middle East in generally.

Re: Should Turkey join the EU? - Big_Becka - 10-15-2008

That's true, Karl. Aren't Turkey still occupying northern Cyprus too?

Re: Should Turkey join the EU? - Steven - 10-16-2008

Big_Becka Wrote:That's true, Karl. Aren't Turkey still occupying northern Cyprus too?
you're right Becka, actually, one of the EU's main exigencies for Turkey to join EU, is that it solves the problem with Cyprus in a peaceful manner, which I very much doubt about. Greece will never give its part, neither is Turkey.

Re: Should Turkey join the EU? - Hellenicoz - 11-17-2008

Only if Turkey solves its differences with other EU member nations and are willing to accept EU laws.

If Turkey become a EU member, it means a citizen of Germany, England, Holland, Greece, Spain or any other EU country can live or work in Turkey with their EU passport just like a citizen of Turkey will be able to do in England or Germany.

Also a man or woman from England, Germany or any EU member nations, should be able to walk around in their swim wear or practice their religion, no matter what, just like a Turkish citizen would be able to do in England or Germany.

The EU is a family & you cant just take & not give.

Turkey must respect their family just like their family must respect them.

A Greek citizen should be able to build a Greek Orthodox Church in Turkey just like a Turkish citizen should be able to build a Mosque in Greece as a example.

And we are able to listen again an orthodox liturgy in Hagia Sophia from Constantinople Smile
People, don't foolish the History!

Hellenicoz, finally a great point of view that I totally support!
Respect! +1Smile

Re: Should Turkey join the EU? - friend - 01-14-2009

I think if Turkey joined they will lose a part of themselves. It is by far one of the most interesting countries in the world, I don't want it to compromise its identity. Turkey has always been the 'middle way', neither this nor that, that's what creates such an allure about the beautiful land.

Re: Should Turkey join the EU? - sektor_Gaza - 01-14-2009

I am Russian and I do support Turkey in becoming an equal EU member. It is clear that then EU will have another responsible and equitable country in its union along with Germany, Italy, France.

EU will no doubt benefit from it as Turks are diligent nation!

Re: Should Turkey join the EU? - sektor_Gaza - 01-21-2009
