How long does it take to become a pilot - Hakan G - 08-06-2008

Hi! I’d like to ask if anybody here is a professional pilot? Because my son is absolutely passionate about airplanes and airports (his 14 years old now), so I wonder how long does it take to become a pilot of passenger airlines, in order to not miss the point when the professional education should start. I imagine it should take some time because it takes a lot of responsibility to be a pilot.
Also if anybody knows how much would it cost to have such an education? :livre

Thank you

To become a pilot for single-engine planes it takes somewhere about half a year, and it is not that expensive.
The big money and time are spent to qualify for a professional license, because you need to gather a lot, many hours of flying. It can take up to 5 years, and sometimes even 10.
You need to be sure that your medical condition is good too.
PS. Not a professional pilot, just an amateur

Many children have similar dreams - become presidents, astronauts, pilots.
Becoming a good pilot should take one's entire life, 'cause this is not only for entertainment, this must be a shelter for your mood.

Yeah, like Karl had mention here, you might need years of pilot driving experiences, before you can be claimed as the professional pilot...

No matter what, I'm sure that you will acheive your dream in the future...

he will achieve his dream in his dreams, unless he does nothing but learning to fly. Besides, I don't know how old you are Hakan, but if you are over 50, it's too late for you to do that

No it is for my son. He wants to be a pilot, and obtain a commercial license.

that is great Hakan. But he'll need to buy his own plane in order to have good profit.

It sounds stupid, but when I was a kid, I wanted to become a pilot. All the girls wanted to become something like top models, but not me. Fortunately this wish left me. Smile

why not Helen? Today's women are very modern and can practice any profession they like. Still, I wouldn't like my pilot to be a woman.

If your wife is a pilot, divorce is likely to appear as an option.

Re: How long does it take to become a pilot - Terry - 09-27-2008

divorce will definitely occur, unless the husband is not so patient. Can you imagine how many nights he has to spend alone without his wife

The movie "The aviator" is a good one for making all of us understand how precious is somebody's dream related to aviation. Actually it's an entire art.

well children have the dream of becoming a pilot.
if he need to be a pilot encourage him and provide all the facilities for that.
for airline pilots FFA had declared and period of 1500 hr to promote safety To get an ATP certification's there are some requirements:ATP knowledge and practical certification,1500hr practice.
I think I cost around $70000 to be a pilot.
