Andorra - Aeneas - 11-07-2008

I'd like to one day visit Andorra. I can read and understand Catalan (their language) without having taken any classes. They are the 6th smallest European nation and they have the LONGEST life expectancy.

Re: Andorra - Faw_Peter - 11-07-2008

Andorra is a great place for tourists. I don't know why tourists like this place, but I read that 80% of this country's GDP is formed by tourists, which is quite impressive.
Does this country have something special other countries don't?

Re: Andorra - Aeneas - 11-07-2008

I think it's their super cool flag Smile Smile Somehow it looks vaguely familiar .... :?

Re: Andorra - Andrewz - 11-08-2008

You're right Aeneas, it looks almost the same as the Moldovan flag
Here, compare

We have a bigger cow Wink Wink Wink

Re: Andorra - Andrewz - 11-08-2008

Aeneas Wrote:We have a bigger cow Wink Wink Wink
are you from Moldova? You said you're a Romanian.
By the way, that's not a cow drawn on the Moldovan flag, it's an animal called aurochs. Now registered in the Red Book.

Aye Andrew... that is the conundrum. To make a long story short, we are Romanians. A big chunk of Romania is Moldova. A big chunk of Moldova is NOT Romania. How is that possible you ask? Well, it's the way history works. Let's just say that there was an agreement, some call it an alliance between Hitler and Stalin (this is before Hitler double-crossed him). They agreed upon the division of a bunch of countries and just like that ... POOF ... a big part of Romania went to the Soviets. You can read all about it if you wish in the Wiki or other sources. Here's a link http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Molotov-Ribbentrop_Pact
Now take a look at the Romanian flag and coat of arms... you will see further similarities. As for the bison.. well.. I was just being funny.

Guys here's what I found :-)
Romania's flag

and Chad's flag

these countries have the same concepts for sure

Re: Andorra - Aeneas - 11-10-2008

Yeah, we know about that. Chad is cool but we had that flag for centuries. During the commie era they had pasted a coat of arms in the center that irked people to no end. So after the revolution this was the most popular version of the flag (and my favorite):

But my current favorite is the Navy flag:

Re: Andorra - Benn - 11-11-2008

I think these images explain why this state attracts tourists so much.
Andorra's ecology is very clean

Re: Andorra - Aeneas - 11-11-2008

Truly magnificent. But did you know that Andorra is ruled by a duumvirate? Not a DUMBvirate... a duumvirate. Pretty cool. I found out that Andorra is a co-principality between the President of France - Sarkozy - and Joan Enric Vives i SicÃlia who is the current the Bishop of Urgell, Spain, and they are the duumvirate (co-princes) who rule Andorra.

Re: Andorra - Steven - 11-13-2008

The legislative power is the General Council, consisting of 28 members who are elected each 4 years.

Re: Andorra - Aeneas - 11-13-2008

be that as it may.... I still like the word DUUMvirate. And having co-princes... way cool.

Re: Andorra - Faw_Peter - 11-13-2008

andorra is totally lacked of the agricultural sector. This obviously doesn't make the core income, since only 2% of lands are used for agricultural purposes, and only 1% of the population is engaged here.

Re: Andorra - shane - 10-20-2009

Andorra is a tiny dot on the map; an independent Principality dwarfed by France and Spain, most famous for being a tax haven and a popular tourist destination peppered with summer and winter resorts.

Re: Andorra - Lorry - 12-17-2009

It is an extremely small country with only around 85,000 residents but has become extremely popular over the years not only for its amazing tourist destinations, but also because of its status as a tax haven. The country is a ski-lovers paradise, and a shoppers dream come true, with over 2,000 shops packed into the country.
It is amazing that such a small country have been recognized by many people because of it's beauty and interesting places.

Re: Andorra - samuel5028 - 09-09-2010

Andorra is one of the beautiful place to visit.Andorrans live in seven valleys that form Andorra's political districts. Andorrans are a minority in their own country; they make up only approximately 38% of the population or about 32.000 native Andorrans. Spanish, French, and Portuguese residents make up the other 62% of the population.
