How would I do my project on cosmology? - Cleo67 - 01-27-2011

I have a project for my science class and I chose the topic cosmology, and I was wondering if any of you guys have an idea of how I should present my research. I want to make a poster for my project, and I'm not exactly sure how I will organize my research of cosmology on it, like how I should set it up. Any ideas?

-Thanks. Smile

Maybe do Cosmology in glow in the dark letters on a black poster for your title with planets and stars, sun, moon surround the title.

Then have little white pieces of paper around the poster with your questions and answers, or facts (whatever you have written down) just dotted around the poster. ?

Cosmology is a very wide topic. You're going to have to narrow that down to something less general (but still not very specific since I'm assuming you're in high school or below) - try the big bang, the expanding universe, the WMAP satellite, or probes of cosmology like supernovae and gamma ray bursts.

History of the "world view" from time of the ancients, different cultures, modern science discoveries, current theories of creation, future of the universe.
The subject is so broad, you will have to pick a narrow part of it.
KISS, or Keep it simple, scientific. Most people have a low tolerance for lots of facts and figures.

When I would plan a school or work presentation, I would always start with an outline in a notebook, and I'd number the pages. Then I would reference any notes or ideas back to the outline, and keep track of what pages corresponded to each place on the outline. I turned in my notebook with the complete project, because it always seemed to impress my teachers and bosses.

Have you decided on a particular area within cosmology, or will this project be the general subject of cosmology? I like ancient civilizations, so I would likely do a project on the timeline of cosmology, starting with the Babylonians.

Do you have any observatories near you that you could visit and include in your project? I like the idea of posters because they are popular items already, and you will probably be allowed to keep some, or your school might want to keep them displayed with your name on them.

Here is a link to a "Journal of Cosmology" and it contains many individual subjects that would be interesting for a project:
