And a serious Greek image to go with my funny Roman ones:

But notice the Roman numerals upper left.... can you guess the context?

XXIX = 29 BC.
The year Virgil began to compose the Aeneid which makes me believe the image you posted is from one of the illuminated manuscripts.
I have distinguished some words among the greco latin language (?) ..AΧΑΙΟΙ is one of them :lol:

Good one ,Aeneas, the one who fled from Troy 8-)

Nice decoding! Given that there was no word spacing. It's an illustration of the Iliad.

I wonder how was it possible to read these things - no spaces between rows. I think it's even more difficult than reading Chinese
If a kid asks where rain comes from, I think a cute thing to tell him is "God is crying." And if he asks why God is crying, another cute thing to tell him is "Probably because of something you did."

They were real scholars back then... and to make things even more interesting, in the early days, after they abandoned writing only from right to left like the Phoenicians, they practiced "boustrophedon" - ox-turning; which meant switching directions every time they went from one row to another.

It's not difficult at all when you're familiar with the language.

A very small part of Turkey is part of Europe. The small bit between Istanbul and the Greek border. I think its only 5% which is part of Europe and 95% in Asia.
