Abhazia! Why Russia needs it?
#1
It is actually very simple. In about 2011 Russia will have to re- new its lease of Ukranian city of Sevastopol, naval base. Given how friendly russia-Ukrainian relations were I don't think Ukraine is going to keep Russian base on Ukraine teritory.
So Russia need new pupet country on the shore of Black sea, Abhazia fits the bill perfectly.
I am willing to bet that when Russia will get the boot out of Ukraine it will base its ships in Abhazia.

Don't forget that Russia also needs lot of resources for Sochi olympics, as we know they use that territory (building stuff) and workers from it! secondery, this place is really good for controlling Turkey (NATO member) and Georgia's seaports. they need a buffer zone for vindication its influance on this region!

do you really think Ukraine is left a choice on whether to keep or not that base? It's too risky for them to remove it. Plus, I'm certain that the majority of Ukrainian citizens would not support this action.
If a kid asks where rain comes from, I think a cute thing to tell him is "God is crying." And if he asks why God is crying, another cute thing to tell him is "Probably because of something you did."

In this matter, the Ukraine will have the European Union's support. The US will back them as well. Unfortunately, if EU and US back Ukraine, Europe might suffer again from Russia's sanctions.

Please make it clear HOW would US and EU back Ukraine that Russia would be willing to place a sanctions. To make it simpler lets imagine that time is out but ships are not even think to move out and Medvedev promises that they would remain ther as long as his pet wants.

It is all the chess. Abkhazia- is a state that has access to the Black see, and it is a good place for our NAVY to control Turkey's NAVY forces, because they are members of NATO, so we have to. Crimea, we need as an ancient and biggest Russian NAVY base on Black sea. We restore our bases in Cuba and Syria as well ( In Cuba we have just a negotiations about it, but in Syria I know that we are building a powerful base,I knew about it and heard it from my good Syrian friends). We are trying to return the past glory to the Mother Russia Smile
And NATO is a mirage do you really think that Greece, Bulgaria, France, Germany, Spain, Portugal, Turkey, the nations with whom we have a warm relationships will come to war with us if something would happened in the East Europe? For example Georgia, or Ukraine will have troubles with us. I don't think so. And for sure you understand, that nobody will fire not NATO in Russia not Russia in NATO, becouse it is the end of humankind. But Russia don't want to conquest the new lands, in other case the Georgia would became our province in 2008. :livre

I think they could. That's because they would be pushed to act against you due to their NATO-member commitments. Otherwise, what was their purpose of adhering to NATO?

Well Georgia Girl,

I hate to criticize you, but your president Sakaschvili seriously compromised Nato’s southern flank in that attack on Ossetia, when Abhazia, Ossetia and Russia all ganged up on him in reply.

Of course, as we all know it was not an ‘attack’, because it was made in a bid to bring constitutional order and democracy.

But the timing was not right.

He didn’t make sure he and the allies have enough long-range capacity to reach targets inside Russia.
I like Sakaschvili’s pro-activeness, after all he’s a US-educated lawyer – but any pro-active or enhanced containment of enemy combatants needs better planning!

Hope it’ll be improved soon.

Good luck,
LO
