Why is is taking so long- getting the right job?
#1
I am a hard working, motivated and very experienced PA/Secretary, originally Russian, worked and studied in Latvia. I do have experience as a supervisor here in the UK, now I am looking for something more suitable for me in the office administration field. It is taking me ages, because, honestly speaking, all the recruitment agents seem to be bored, routine-stricken, and absolutely NOT challenged by their job.
So I feel absolutely helpless in this situation. Office jobs is not something one can find advertised in a window of the office (it`s not your regular newsagent).
Are there any COMMITTED recruitment agents out there? Someone who has not lost his/her spark? Am I registering for the wrong agencies? What`s going on?
I feel like saying: "Hey, you can have your coffee later, can you sit down, flip through your notes and make me an offer? I am the right person, I fit so many descriptions, why don`t you do something? You`re being paid for it , after all! ". Roar!

Its a shame...some agencies are like that..they tend to just put people on their books in order for them to rake in the commission...(I personally dont use agencies as they've never helped me) The way I found my office job was through the good old jobcentre...and of course..there's always the papers!...In my view...agencies are a waste of time!

Recruitment agencies only cater to certain types of employer; you may be better off making your own approach to companies you select as 'likely' places to work.

An agency deals in 'bulk product'. They can only supply broad categories (basically competent administrators), and an outstanding product (as you seem to be)is very hard to sell in this kind of environment. An employer does not expect much from the staff supplied by the agency, and will not be able to use the extra skills and motivation you bring with you.

Some firms avoid using recruitment agencies, for exactly this reason.

Try listing your specialist skills (including interests and hobbies that give you some specialised knowledge), and identify firms whose core business matches the list. If you can target your applications at those companies who can best use your particular blend of skills, then you will find employment faster than an agency can place you. You will also get a job you can enjoy, rather than one that you endure until you can get another one.

Just hope for the best and wait for your chance. I haven't heard of anyone who tried to look for a job their whole life and not ending up finding one.
