The client is visually impaired and is the National Arts Development officer, at the RNIB
Hourly rate £9.25
Office support 25 per week plus Conferences and Training sessions up to 15 overnight stays per year, travel and expenses met
The role of a support worker is to facilitate the client to be able to carry out their work role, doing the tasks that are difficult for the client, it is not to do their job .
1. Reading support
* To read electronic information that is inaccessible with access technology software e.g. webpages, PDF documents
* To scan-read documents e.g. reports, magazines, publications, to highlight relevant sections for Emma for research.
* To read hand-written documents e.g. handwritten letters, training evaluation forms
* To read documents that cannot be scanned e.g. complex printed documents with graphical information - magazines, external reports, event invitations and forms; and printed documents where there is poor contrast - invoices, faxes.
* To proof read printed documents that the employee has written to check visual aspects including layout, alignment and graphics e.g. reports, strategy documents, service updates, funding bids, PowerPoint presentations
2. Admin support)
* To complete inaccessible external forms e.g. external conference booking forms
* To read and collate receipts for expenses forms.
To assist with photocopying, filing and faxing.
3. Out of office support (Additional 48 hours per month): Approx 15 per year, in addition to office hours
3.1 Sighted assistance for conferences /training / and external meetings etc
* To guide client when travelling to site visits, partnership and participant meetings, access audits/appraisals and meetings with blind and partially sighted people
* To provide general orientation and sighted assistance around unfamiliar venues including locating toilets, catering facilities etc.
* To describe venue layouts and information displayed during access audits/appraisals
* To provide sighted assistance at presentations and training- setting up beforehand and reading the PC screen if there are any crashes during presentations.
* To assist in meetings when there is a large audience by providing a cue for who is talking.
* To assist with networking by notifying client who is where, and reading name badges.
3.2 Sighted assistance for Visual Awareness Training
* To guide Emma when travelling to visual awareness training sessions
* To provide general orientation and sighted assistance around unfamiliar venues including locating toilets, catering facilities etc.
* To provide sighted assistance during training sessions with setting up equipment e.g. PowerPoint projector, locating plug sockets and light settings, changing the physical layout of the room if needed, taping down cables to ensure health and safety.
* To read the PC screen if there are any crashes during presentations.
* To assist with meeting and greeting attendees and assist with drinks and lunches for blind and partially sighted attendees
* To assist in training sessions when there is a large audience by providing a cue for who is talking.
* To provide ad hoc administrative support at external venues such as photocopying additional resources.
* To assist with clearing up at the end of sessions
