Dissolution was the best course for "a government that is not working", Kostunica said. The election would most likely take place on May 11, the date set for local elections in Serbia.

Kostunica gave no clue to whether his small nationalist party would now seek an alliance with the hardline nationalist Radical Party -- Serbia's biggest -- and the Socialists of the late autocrat Slobodan Milosevic.

Such a coalition would be likely to adopt an unyielding position on Kosovo, possibly shutting down Serbia's bid for EU membership in favor of closer ties with Russia, which has backed Kostunica's stance on Kosovo.

Kostunica has indirectly accused his pro-Western coalition partners of giving up defending Serbia's claim to Kosovo in favor of better ties with the West, which backs Kosovo's secession.

He said part of the coalition wanted Serbia to be a member of the European Union only if the independence of Kosovo, which two-thirds of EU members have recognized, is revoked, while a majority did not want EU membership linked to Kosovo.

His decision to end the government puts him in direct conflict with Serbia's pro-Western president, Boris Tadic, and his party, who formed the backbone of the coalition which came to power 10 months ago.

Kostunica's Democratic Party of Serbia (DSS) says it will support a Serbian Radical Party (SRS) resolution in parliament, calling on the European Union to "clearly and unambiguously" confirm Serbia's territorial integrity, as a condition for further European integration.

Tadic's Democratic Party and its liberal G17 Plus partner opposed the resolution in cabinet earlier this week and defeated it two-to-one.

The pro-EU parties say the resolution will not bring back Kosovo -- whose Albanian majority declared independence on February 17 with Western backing -- but put a halt to Serbia's bid to join the European Union, which is their key policy aim.

My dear neighbours,lets talk about history.It is amazing.I am first time here and didn't have time to read every letter so please forgive me if i am repeating someone.serbs setlled on balkanian semiisland from second to 7th century as strongest group of slovenian ppl.In that time Balkan was part of Roman and later Bizantyne impery.Ppl who lived there were ilirian but Balkan was cruel place so it wasn't so much crowded...thats why slovenian came here.Ilirian lived on teritory of today croatia,slovenia,macedonia and bosnia as well as on serbian teritry...Most of our nations are maden from mixing between us...Part of ilirians were Arbanasis...There is no evidence that Dardania which wasn't state but was provincy of bizantine impery was in any connection with Arbanases.Ppl who were original dardanians were wild group of pl who lived in caves and had very bad smell and its root of greek word they get name as group of ppl.But they were not Arbanasis ...or slovenians...Anyway Kosovo which is cause of trouble for some ppl today was under Roman,Bizantyne and Otoman impery and after crush of all of them they belong to Serbian state...So it can be Italian,Greek,Turkish or Serbian....It never was under Albanian state ot it never was state by itself or it never was state of Albanian ppl till now.
That is a fact...

Well this topic is getting out of context. I would really appreciate if you people of balkan countries trying to find what's wrong with your national politics or politicians and condemn crimes aflicted by your fellow citizens. Otherwise you would end accussing each other without any result and criminals would stay free without been punished, like they are now in Serbia. I would really suggest to serbians do not post anything about crimes, becuase simple you don't have right to do this as nation taking into consideration wars in balkan 1912, WWII and 1990.

Instead of talking about crimes serbians first need to apologise to Croatians, Bosniaks and Albanians for crimes commited against them.

For crimes commited by serbians it's no need to put link here. I'ts very simple to find materials about serbian crimes just google "serbian+crimes" you would find thousand of official document and images proving what you are looking for.

And about the rights, please read something out of the strict lines of public political expresion of Serbian Goverment, the Albanians have been treated as animals.

I think you should read more history, and I do not say this just as an Albanian, to show that the land belongs only to me, it belongs to the whole human race, we have all made the history in this planet called earth. But the most funny part is when the most oldest people in Balkans that are the Albanias, to be denied their own history, and to be vanished by some who want to show that they were superior, well I am sorry, no one will let that happen. Yes you guys made your own history to the Balkan peninsula, we cannot deny that you came there in 6-7 AD, but history fortunately does not start there.

Also I have said that over and over again, that Dardania(kosova) was given the independence more on the human right bases. I think that Serbs right now are refusing themselves to be civilized. That's what we always wanted peace, prosperity, and happiness for everyone, where they all belong.

Prvo, od 1989. niko nije branio da idete u skolu, fakultet, i sl. na svom jeziku, ali vi niste zeleli da radite po programima Republike Srbije, ciji ste deo.
Drugo, Aulona prvo postuje, kako je ovo planeta Zemlja za sve ljude, a zatim, da su Albanci potomci Ilira, i da je ovo vasa zemlja. A ja koliko znam, to da ste potomci Ilira, je pocelo da se javlja u doba Envera Hodze. Tada ste poceli i da dobijate muska imena, poput Ilir, i sl...E sad, odlucite, da li ta zemlja (Balkan), istorijski pripada samo vama, ili je za sve ljude sveta.

Mislim, ako pripada Albancima, ajmo onda da oteramo Amerikance iz SAD....zaboga, pa oni su dosli u Ameriku tek u XV veku...mnogo kasnije nego Sloveni na Balkan, zar ne?
