im in the military and stationed in germany, and would liketo travel to england. do i need a passport to do so?
Military of what country? As far as I know you need a passport. If you are stationed in Germany and are not a German citizen...you should already have a military passport. That is adequate. Take the train to Brussels and take the ferry from Dover (you know White Cliffs of Dover) over. Not only is the scenery fantastic but the price is reasonable.
Unless the military is sending you in a military transport, yes, you will need a passport to visit any foreign nation. Certainly get the passport. You can apply at your friendly local post office, in fact. Being in Germany offers you so many great travel opportunities: in just a matter of a few hours, you can jump a train and be in France, Italy, Belgium, Switzerland, England, the Czech Republic, Austria, etc. Take advantage of this incredible opportunity to get off base and go see Europe! You will never regret it.
You will need a regular passport for leisure travel in Europe. Since you are stationed in Germany at present you will get it through the passport office of your Military Community.

To travel on the European continent you can visit Belgium, the Netherlands, Luxembourg (BNL), Denmark (DK), Hungary (HU), Portugal (PT), Sweden (SE), and Norway (NO) with leave order and ID card. For return to Germany you need a proof of entitlement to enter and reside under Article III of the NATO Status of Forces Agreement.
