WHY SHOULD WE FORGIVE OTHERS? - euigorwithyou - 08-26-2008

Why should we forgive others?
When you don't forgive a person, you still want to prove to him something.
For instance, you may want to prove that he was not simply wrong, but very, very wrong and so on.
But if we have this atitude, it means that YOU HAVE A PROBLEM. Yes, indeed: you have a problem.
Why? Because your desire to prove to other person something that he rejects, links you CLOSELY to the bad facet of that person. And this link makes that other person to control your thoughts and emotions. From that moment you are not totally free, your thoughts and emotions depend on how the other person will react.

Besides, in this case, you don't respect the other person's "dignity to be wrong". In a sense, you kind of require, in your mind, from that person to give up and agree with you: "Don't dare to disagree with me!" So the problem, in this case, is that you rob yourself of freedom and don't allow other person to be free from your persuasion. It means that you respect neither your freedom, nor the freedom of other person. But forgiveness makes you totally free. Indeed, you give to other person a loving advice, and if he disagrees with you, you respect both his choice and his dignity. And by forgiving others you open the way to love. And love makes wonders for your moral, spiritual and physical health.

honestly, I am now in quarrel with a friend of mine. I don't know what to do. I know he did something wrong, and he knows it as well, but he doesn't want to recognize that.
We haven't spoken for already a week, that's a long time, since we used to talk each day. I know he is very stubborn and will never want to make the first step to set peace between us again.
I can make the first step, but, that would mean I am wrong. But I know I am not. That's for sure. It's just that he didn't keep a promise.
What shall I do?

the Bible says we should forgive, and we'll be forgiven. So let's follow this principle.

Re: WHY SHOULD WE FORGIVE OTHERS? - Steven - 09-02-2008

This principle is a little bit naive. You can't survive that way during these days.

because we mistake at our turn and we also to someone ask to forgive us. If people would not forget than on earth would live only lonely people, or in general should not exist people.

yes, we would be naive if we forgive all ... in general forget is a word not to be spread in left and right, because people get to make use of this privilege and someone's weakness. And that someone become society sheep because go up on back all thistles

who said we need to forgive? I disagree with this? you must forgive people we love, others can live without our forgiveness as we without theirs. Anyway not change what is done!

I only frogive those who I think deserve to be forgiven. If the person realises his/her mistake and feels that he/she must not repeat it, then I forgive them. And it doesn't matter whether or not the person comes back to me and says sorry, etc. What matters more to me is how the person feels inside. If he feels sorry for what he did, but doesn't apologise to me ... that's fine, he is forgiven. But someone who doesn't feel sorry but comes to me even with the finest apologies, is not forgiven. And those who arent forgiven are usually not forgotten either, not because I would want to take revenge on them or somthing (which i feel is a waste of my time), but because I'd like to be a bit more cautious dealing with them in future.

they may be are Forgive but only verbally, which is enough for them and for us is the demonstration that should be aware and to keep away from these and such people.

All of us should forgive each others for the one important reason, because all of us deserve a second chance. Because if you will forget someone's mistake, it will forgive you when you will be wrong in a specific case. We should collapse each other.

What if the person doesn`t want to collapse with you? What if he or she is quite aggressive?

What stands behind of "to forgive"? I think it means to notice someone`s mistake and to know that that person is able to make such a mistake and never forget that. It doesn`t mean to take offence at someone, it just means to see and to notice.

Hello,

I totally agree with you Laurentine. We should give the second chance to the other person. It shows that you know the value of that person.

Quote:What if the person doesn`t want to collapse with you? What if he or she is quite aggressive?

Its depend on you that you want to give him/her the second chance . If that person feel their mistake and know that what you are for him/her then surely he/she want that chance.

I once read in a book that forgiveness is allowing a person to find their own path. It's letting go of that need to have the last word or to have revenge. But forgiveness doesn't mean that you let that person walk all over you. Instead, create boundaries that distance you from areas that will hurt you.
