well I personally consider it is. It wanted to draw Europe's attention and thought Russia would get scared and reduce the prices for gas. But, it didn't expect to receive that tough opposition from Russia.

It has become a New Year's tradition: With the clock inching closer to midnight, Russia and Ukraine trade threats and accusations as talks over the next year's gas contract come down to the wire.
