GMO products - John - 02-17-2009 What do you think about Genetically modified products? Are they safe? Should they be banned or allowed in EU? Here is some information from the Institute of Science and Society about Horizontal Gene Transfer in GMO. Quote:Genetic engineering is a collection of laboratory techniques used to isolate and combine the genetic material of any species, and then to multiply the constructs in convenient cultures of bacteria and viruses in the laboratory. Most of all, the techniques allow genetic material to be transferred between species that would never interbreed in nature. That is how human genes can be transferred into pig, sheep, fish and bacteria; and spider silk genes end up in goats. Completely new, exotic genes are also being introduced into food and other crops. Re: GMO products - Benn - 02-17-2009 Genetic products are OK, moreover it's great that scientists deal with it. The mother-nature can not offer us everything we need. Therefore human's interference is necessary in order to meet our real demand for products. Re: GMO products - John - 02-18-2009 Benn, that's the story that the GMO producers want you to believe in. And in the following vid are some facts that are not advertised by the GMO producers: [flash=425,344]http://www.youtube.com/v/710tmYMxsyY&hl=en&fs=1[/flash] The ultimate question about GMO is why the non labeling of GM products is imposed on many countries through World Trade Organization. I believe that everyone want to be informed if their product is genetically modified and make a conscious decision to use it or not to use. Imposing the non labeling politics is a crime against humanity and democratic values. Re: GMO products - M.Helen - 02-18-2009 interesting, but how in the world genetically modified products can generate diseases? When elaborating them, this must be taken in consideration. Only the best specialists can deal it. Re: GMO products - John - 02-19-2009 M.Helen Wrote:interesting, but how in the world genetically modified products can generate diseases? It was based on local scientific researches. Now the EU was sued many times through WTO because of this ban, they stated that the ban is not based on their scientific data. Now which researches are more trustworthy those sponsored by the producers of GMO or those made by people concerned with human health? The companies that promote and impose the GMO products are doing this to earn HUGE money! Every farmer have to pay to use the GMOs. In US it is illegal to label products as non GMO or GMO free, how this undemocratic law could ever be created? 90 percent of population wants to know if the food is Genetically modified or not. How would scientists and researches find out the long term effects of consuming GMO foods if they are not labeled? The reality is that GMOs are NOT needed and NOT wanted in EU by the majority of citizens. Re: GMO products - Tiras - 02-19-2009 Just a quote from TWN: Quote:Genetically modified products, and the right and ability of countries to regulate these products and trade, including imports, are also looming as a major trade issue -- with the United States backing its powerful corporations, and trying to use the WTO rules to force acceptance of these products, using scientifically questionable concepts like 'substantial equivalence', and asking those objecting to prove they are unsafe. And another quote from TWN the research conclusions: Quote: * GMOs can survive or transfer their transgenes to indigenous organisms; Re: GMO products - Terry - 02-19-2009 Many things depend on the European authority for food safety. Namely they have taken the decision to approve the decision of allowing import of these products, since the EU member-states didn't reach a majority to adopt it. Re: GMO products - Steven - 02-20-2009 GMO will make farmers go bankrupt. Thas is because not every farmer has the possibility to spend sources for these experiments. Giant companies will swallow them. Re: GMO products - Peach - 04-01-2009 Steven Wrote:GMO will make farmers go bankrupt. Small farmers are subcontracted by giant companies. It's not that bad. Both parties gain mutual benefit - farmers have a guaranteed buyer while companies have a guaranteed supplier. Re: GMO products - willyoumind - 06-09-2009 The Lessen we taken the GMO products the better! After all, we have many choice, instead of taking the GMO foods, isn't it? Try the organic foods, as it's good for our health, either in physically or mentally! Re: GMO products - utterlyadrift24 - 06-10-2009 Well to be honest with you it's cheaper to by GM products than to be organic. For example, it costs 98 pence to buy a GM watermelon (whole) and to buy an organic one it costs about double the price.... If the prices were at least the same people would probably choose to buy the organic one, but since it costs alot more I guess people don't care as much. Re: GMO products - neweuropean - 06-14-2009 My personal belief is that there is a 50-50 chance that GMO's do, or one day will, cause problems to people or the food chain. The real problem is a question of choice. In an open society, where people are supposed to be able to make free choices... that right is stripped away by legislation that FORBIDS a choice to be made, by not allowing labels to be placed on GMO products. That kind of legislative prohibition is unconscionable in a democratic society... Where an option for a choice can be made by the people, the governments should not vote that right away... Re: GMO products - Nathan - 06-25-2009 This passage http://www.i-sis.org.uk/horizontal.php creates an impression that humans, although have brain, don't think at all about the consequences that their experiments can lead to. It makes me believe that man does everything to eradicate its own race... Re: GMO products - Laurentine - 07-01-2009 Some changes are made in the markets. Curly cucumbers, crooked carrots and mottled mushrooms - odd-looking fruit and vegetables are making a comeback as 20-year-old EU rules are lifted. http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/world/europe/8127586.stm Re: GMO products - Troll - 09-08-2009 GMO should not be allowed for plants or animals at current time. There are plenty of information about the horrific danger it is to nature and to human. Scientists have reported that ecological methods gives better results, and that GMO food has not meet the promised "benefits" (by any means). As a starting point take a look at the award winning documenter video made by the journalist Marie-Monique Robin: Go to YouTube (www . Youtube . Re: GMO products - Lenin666 - 10-11-2009 Re: GMO products - Terry - 12-10-2009 I refuse flatly to use GMO.It damages our health and our generation.Do you know what company has started the production of GMO,just think. In the first place, GMO is not natural product, everybody knows that the use of unnatural products have consequences, even the use of medicines. We can't deceive our organism, it identify any alien substance . Our generation mutates, we should think about it :quoi Re: GMO products - Troll - 12-21-2009 Have a look at this on "STOP ‘MONSANTOSIZING’ FOOD, SEEDS AND ANIMALS!: www.no-patents-on-seeds.org/index.php?o ... &Itemid=56 When food, aminal and nature are patented - the world is already over the edge. |
