Luminiferous aether - Terry - 06-26-2009 Did you know this theory can turn out the whole science of Physics? What do you know about this aether? In the late 19th century, "luminiferous aether" (or "ether"), meaning light-bearing aether, was the term used to describe a medium for the propagation of light.[1] The word aether stems via Latin from the Greek αιθήρ, from a root meaning to kindle, burn, or shine. It signifies the substance which was thought in ancient times to fill the upper regions of space, beyond the clouds. Later theories including special relativity were formulated without the concept of aether. Today the idea of aether, what Albert Michelson called "one of the grandest generalizations of modern science", is regarded as a superseded scientific theory. Re: Luminiferous aether - Nathan - 06-29-2009 I also found some interesting facts about aether. That's really amazing. It turns over and renovates the whole science of Physics! http://www.esotericscience.com/Aether.aspx Re: Luminiferous aether - Faw_Peter - 07-01-2009 I've recently heard about this theory, and it is a very new, a young one. I think it will really change human point of view towards the world and energy. I read that firstly this theory was created by Tesla. And I really suppose that it has a future. |
