Criticism of Religions - Atheist - 07-09-2009 I would like to create this thread for us to collect various quotes and photos that would make people think rationally, basing their thoughts on common sense rather than on dogmas. “The Old Testament Jehovah is definitely a sort of divine man (not a woman), who sees with eyes and hears with ears – and talks and acts in real time (God waited to see what Job would do, and then he spoke to him). Many contemporary Christians, Jews and Muslims insist that God, or Allah, being omniscient, has no need for anything like sense organs, and, being eternal, does not act in real time. This is puzzling, since many of them continue to pray to God, to hope that God will answer their prayers tomorrow, to express gratitude to God for creating the universe, and to use such locutions as ‘what God intends us to do’ and ‘God have mercy’, acts that seem to be in flat contradiction to their insistence that their God is not at all anthropomorphic.” Daniel Dennett Re: Criticism of Religions - Gregor2000 - 07-09-2009 “Historians of religion recognize a progression from primitive tribal animisms through polytheisms such as those of the Greeks, Romans, and Norsemen, to monotheisms such as Judaism and its derivatives, Christianity and Islam.” Richard Dawkins “Monotheism is in its turn doomed to subtract one more God and become atheism.” Ibn Warraq Re: Criticism of Religions - Imran - 07-09-2009 “The world wants to be deceived, so let it be deceived.” Pope Paul VI Re: Criticism of Religions - Patrick - 07-09-2009 “By far the majority of Muslims today live their lives without recourse to violence, for the Koran is like a pick-and-mix selection. If you want peace, you can find peaceable verses. If you want war, you can find bellicose verses.” Patrick Sookhdeo Re: Criticism of Religions - Sam Harris - 07-09-2009 “A recent Gallup poll revealed that 53% of Americans are creationists. This means that despite a full century of scientific insights attesting to the antiquity of life and the greater antiquity of the earth, more than half of our neighbours believe that the entire cosmos was created six thousand years after the Sumerians invented glue. Those with the power to elect our presidents and congressmen – and many who themselves get elected – believe that dinosaurs lived two by two upon Noah´s ark, that light from different galaxies was created en route to the earth, and that the first members of our species were fashioned out of dirt and divine breath, in a garden with a talking snake, by the hand of an invisible God.” Sam Harris Re: Criticism of Religions - Atheist - 07-09-2009 An example how religion is used to take responsibility from oneself... God told me to strike at Al-Quaida and I struck them. Then he told me to strike at Saddam which I did. George W. Bush Re: Criticism of Religions - Faw_Peter - 07-09-2009 Sam Harris Wrote:“A recent Gallup poll revealed that 53% of Americans are creationists. What's wrong with the people who believe in this and trust Bible and Christian Religion? Re: Criticism of Religions - hellodear - 08-11-2009 Genrich Geine sad: "The occasional visit to the madhouse can show that the faith prove nothing". :-) :-) :-) Re: Criticism of Religions - hellodear - 08-11-2009 but it is very curious what Leshek Cumor about faith sad:" the faith exists not for the God but for the faithfuls". means that if something exist we need it))))))))) |
