It is believed that this disease is only feminine feature, which is a big mistake, as men suffer from varicose veins. Is a disease that caracterized by swollen veins and exit at the "surface" or medical speaking - Varicosis indicates a tubular or saccular dilatation of superficial and perforating veins.

Varicose veins representing only a cosmetic problem are far more common. Occurrence is facilitated by a sedentary lifestyle and prolonged standing, as well as hereditary and hormonal factors.

It is not only a cosmetic problem - it can lead to thrombosis, which can be lethal!
Varicose veins can be surgically removed.
The best cure is prevention. If you have a job where you have to stand for long periods (e.g. factory worker, shop assistant) make sure you move around as much as possible (e.g. walking on the spot) and take as many breaks as you are allowed. If you sit all day in an office job, get up and walk around at least every hour.

Men too - You should avoid wearing high heels, Nathan ;-)
I have known male factory workers develop this disease from standing at a machine all day.
