Windmills in the water. The Danes idea, who inaugurated the largest "farm" of wind turbines located, not on land, but directly into the sea. The 91 windmills are strung along the North Sea shore, 30 km away from the coast, in a constant strong winds swept the area.
The huge turbines, weighing 400 tons each, can produce 200 MW. In other words, how power 200,000 households consume in a year. Copenhagen officials say more than two years, the forest of wind turbines will provide power required for quarter of energy used in Denmark.

Bravo.. I can say this with all my voice... it is a good way to use sea power... but if will come a a typhoon, will these windmills resist? :?

The dutch use it too!
along the dikes and in the sea we also got windmills.
the problem is, they're really expensive. But It's
a good way to produce green energy!

do you think this windmills could be configured to work in rivers? Cause there're lots and lots of countries which are in the middle of continents and that don't have any shores... ? :quoi

its just, we dont use that space.

In the sea, the air flow experiences less interference from buildings/hills/etc. Also, if you put windmills on a hill, people get upset and say that they spoil the view :roll:
In California, a lot of 'egg-beater' (vertical axis or 'Darrius') wind turbines were built because they work well nearer the ground and in cities. Some supermarkets have started putting these on their roofs - I would like to see more of them :-)
There is also a lot of work into wave and tidal power at the moment. Ideally, a single 'pylon' could have a windmill at the top and a tidal turbine at the bottom ;-) M.Helen - this idea works in tidal rivers too!

The windmills in the water is a new and interesting idea. I wonder if it is profitable.I know that installation windmills not in the sea but on land close to the sea is more expensive but give more energy and more save. I think that our first task is to care about environment even it cost one dear. We should save oceans and sea for our children, our future generation.

It's great what they do, it should be a good example and for other countries to use this method of extracting power from the sea, for improving our environment state. I think our civilization has a great amount of methods how to make the environment better, to clean it, it is just the time, to develop all this methods and put them into the action, but the problem is that we have not so much time.
