I think Turkey has every right to apply for membership as they have lands within Europe. But they need to meet 100% all of the EU membership requirements.

Really, maybe you should check in the way they still treat women. Some of them are killed by family members, or are put in a situation of suicide. The suicide rate in Turkey among unmarried women is the highest. Or put them in a very difficult position, where ever they hold a job, or go to school, or before they get married. Camon we live in the 21 Century, I am not saying that people should go out of their minds, but there's always a medium that people don't want to meet. And until they meet that medium in how they treat their citizens, which in this case are the women, than they will always have that hanging and will be very difficult for them to enter EU, beside being muslims.

Please do not accept Turkey, they are not an European country. The EU comprises European countries. If Turkey joins, why not Syria, why not Kazakhstan (it has some European lands too). Please allow in all Balkan countries, Ukraine, Belarus, Georgia but not Turkey, Northern Africa or the Middle East. Leave Turkey to the Middle East as it more resembles them than Euro countries. Why do governments take unilateral decisions while the majority of the population is against something? Most Europeans do not want Turkey in the EU or to recognize Kosovo as an independent state, governments should not behave so blindly following the US will !!!!!!!!! Cry

If you admit Turkey, why not the whole world, under the umbrella of USA, as USA is another name for EU.

I think Turkey should not be in EU, untill they start to treat the women as human beings and not just as the objects for men. Or maybe, the way the Turks treat their women suits the EU, as its politics of inclusion reveals the very hipocricy of standards for entering EU.

if you talking about woman rights..why you not compare with USA...when the woman's USA will become a top leader (president) or have good chance to get the position? the answer is Never ... dont be dream. Look in Turkey, That country have once a woman become Top Leader (Prime ministry)...and it dosent matter ... according to my observation.. more than a half of moslem countries in this world have been led by woman as a president or prime ministry. once again compare with USA? How many woman can get the chance like that? you can count with your finger...so what's the meaning of that? you just think about yourself...

I guess if the Turkey joins the EU, the entire Europe will become a Muslim one! Maybe I'm exaggerating a little bit, but it is possible.

EU are not Christian countries, EU are countries where people have the freedom to choose what to believe and what not to believe.

EU is mostly catholic and protestant. But, these religion concepts can not go along with the Islamic religion. They are too different and consequently a lot of disputes can appear between the Muslims and Europeans if Turkey joins EU

Why should Turkey join EU? I mean it should be happy the way it lives today. The country's industry is prospering, so it can go on without the EU.

Turkey's economy is not too good, since there are a lot of people who search for jobs in European countries, that's why it would be an advantage for them to join the EU.

Turks simply use to travel, the reason is not their economy. Turks are patriots they like their country. Maybe their educations leaves much to desire, but it's improving

It's hardly possible that Turkey will ever develop its economy at the speed that China does. They don't have many resources and the climate is hot. So, very few perspectives...

EU is a free-space for people, goods and capital. Millions of Turks, whose yearly income is hardly one third that of the Irish, might seek in Europe the opportunities they don't find in their country.
