Mrs. Serial Killer Film Review: The Netflix original film is just a one-time watch film!
Mrs. Serial Killer revolves around a hapless and very helpless wife who decides to take the extreme decision of going on a murderous rage and becoming a murderer only because her beloved husband is arrested for brutally murdering six pregnant women. The character played by the stunning actress Jacqueline Fernandez is that of a women who will go to extremities to save her husband from the court sentence.
The film directed by Shirish Kunder is all about thrill, tragedy, murder and mystery. At first, you will be bombarded with the emotions of sympathy for the wrongly accused man who has been unfairly imprisoned. You will also feel empathy towards the poor wife who is caught in between the ugly middle situation of helping her husband and appearing a criminal in the eyes of the law. You will feel tension and thrill at every moment, while she executes the murders. The perfect film unfolds in front of you, filled with drama and in no way can you predict the film. The serial killer potboiler film is puerile and feels fresh on the screen, it is not the typical thriller film you expect from the Bollywood industry.
Jacqueline’s performance is alarming but is annoying too; her character will make you smile and feel goose bumps when you are expecting it the least. The film is flooded with several reactions of the protagonist, when she is refused by the gatekeeper to go in, when she is refused by the receptionist to meet her husband, her reaction when she is going to kill her long-chased prey and the look when she successfully opens her husband’s laptop. It seems that the director has not made the right choice with casting the role of the protagonist, since the role required deeper emotions to be depicted on the screen. The actress does not just seem right for the roller coaster ride of expressions, which she was expected to deliver. The Netflix Original story makes you wonder that what is happening in the first half.
The film basically depicts the character of Jacqueline as Sona Mukerji, who will go to extreme ends to protect her husband from the illicit charges.Manoj Bajapayee has played the role of her husband, Dr.Joy who is a gynecologist by profession. The real murderer in the film is not just a misogynist but also a master artiste. He stores the fetus from the victim’s in jar, to remind himself of his victories. He beheads all of his victims and then leaves the body to be seen by everyone. In order to save her gynecologist husband, Sona takes Mr. Rastogi’s help. The role of the latter has been played by DarshanJariwala. He misleads her and convincesher that the only way to free her husband is by showing the court that the killer is still on loose and they have arrested the wrong person. The plot of the film with this concerned incident seems very promising. The film has suspense, thriller, and comedy, horrid and romantic scenes. But somehow the execution of the film seems to have failed miserably.
There are plenty of scenes in the film which appear to be irrational and illogical in line with the script. At many incidents, the story seems to be forced just to increase the duration of the film. In one particular scene, Sona visits her husband’s office and tries to just guess the password of his confidential laptop. The password is literally her nickname, “Shona”. It is baffling whether the director was trying to create an “awww” moment for the audience amid the thriller plot. There are several slow motion exaggerated action scenes which are absolutely tedious. There are scenes where the hero and the heroine are flying in the air, fist fighting with the villain and there are scenes with unnecessary glass shattering. The humor in almost all the scenes seems out of place and the dialogues of the film seem cliché too. Neither of the dialogues can promise to make you laugh even once. Furthermore, the dilation of eyes done by Jacqueline all the time just seems very annoying after one point of time. Dr. Joy’s role has not been given much of a back-story and that is one strong reason why something from the film seems missing.
However, to look at the brighter side, the film has beautifully shot landscapes and homes. Talking of Manoj Bajpayee’s role as Sona’s husband has been played well and there are moments where you will get chills. The supporting actors of the film including Zayn Marie, Mohit Raina and DarshanJariwal have done justice to their roles. If you are a die-hard fan of the protagonist then go ahead with the Netflix Series, otherwise Mrs. Serial Killer is just a one-time-watch movie.
