Robots - SF or still a reality?
#1
So we've seen a lot of movies when we were littile that cars will be flying in the future and there will be many other fun stuff in the future like in the year 2008.
But here we are in 2008 and none of them are real. Does this mean that the human kid reached a stage when it can't progress? Will we be able to see a robot helping with our usual, daily activities or this is not going to happen?

One of the movies that shows actions allegedly happening in 2008 is Terminator 3, the rise of machines. It showed a world crash after atomic bombs were launched by robots. You know what? I'm glad it didn't happen!

Well, Karl. Sometimes, we don't even know whether the things has been procede or not...

Take an example, maybe deep into the U.S military, there are a bunch of intelligent scientists that have already invented the flying cars, but it's still in the testing period...

You, see I’m a little bit skeptical about those military secrets. It is like believing in UFO’s, which are also believed to be military projects.

each super power has its own super technology. It won't use it until "dark days" come!

I support movies that describe world catastrophes due to robot appearance. This somehow awakes consciousness in people's mind as well as it is a good example for "curious" scientists.
If a kid asks where rain comes from, I think a cute thing to tell him is "God is crying." And if he asks why God is crying, another cute thing to tell him is "Probably because of something you did."

on the other hand, it gives an incentive to scientists to be more inventive. The main thing to avoid are the nuclear projects.

Until the time robots become that intelligent there is no reason to be afraid.

these films are made to remove money from sales and rentals. Yes in the future there will be robots like in the movies, but there will not be such situations. Already have been presented several models of robots.

It seems me that robots won't be spread in all over the world before there will be such a great difference between the economical levels of countries.

Of course they are reality, they are not like in movies but they are real and serves in many countries as a help at the kitchen or to bring something. They are not so developed as it is shown in the movies but they have some capacities which will be developed in the future.

I don`t understand if you are talking about humanoid robots but robots are part of our world and when I say part of our world, I say you are being serviced by robots RIGHT NOW!! QUICK LOOK BEHIND YOU!!!! (just kidding), but seriously you ARE. have you seen a car factory? they are working and making products for us, for I don`t know how long.
about humanoid robots, well, in supertankers, gigantic cruise ships etc... you don`t put one hundred humanoid robots turning the rudder, the rudder itself is robotic, its has self-moving mechanisms (hydraulic or whatever), its controlled by a program that responds to buttons pushes by humans who are controlling the boat. want an even extremer example. the aeroplanes auto-pilot, they can land the plane, no human nedeed. you don´t have a robot that seats in the pilot seat, it is "embeded" in the plane. you probably can say it´s the plain itself. humans lack the strenght to pull or push ailerons of big planes and fighters planes (for example) it is all non human strength "activated", once you control those electro-mechanical mechanisms with a computer, there you go, a robot.
returning to humanoid robots, well in my country there is a tv and internet service that it allows you to send an sms and the box in your house starts recording a channel. This is not an expensive option or only for the most expensive paying packages, it comes with the service, every client has it. so the idea of a robot answering the phone and then it´s him that will puts the tv recorder working is actually a not so practical thing. you have allready on sale vacuuming robots from phillips and other brands, they are robots!
humanoid robots will practical around the house: setting up the table, tiding our sheets,etc... but robots (not humanoid)are for along time now, everywhere, there is a pharmacy that I go sometimes, they have a robot that it picks up the medicine, but again, its not a humanoid robot. guys, robots are today everywhere.
