The world knows a lot of unusual sports. They seem to be strange, funny, scary, sometimes dangerous.
Here are some of them
Underwater hockey
A young but fast-developing sport. 12 players run underwater in a pool with the dimensions 25x15x2 meters
Underwater rugby
Instead of gates, baskets are used, where the ball is thrown. 15 players: 6 underwater, 5 on the surface (ready to replace) and 4 as reserves. 4 times x 15 minutes
Man vs horse
Men run together with horses at the distance of 35 km. Horses permanently finish first
World championship on coal dragging
First time carried out in 1963 in Yorkshire. Rules: run 1012.5 meters with 50 kg of coal on your back.

Wife Carrying Competition
The Finish Wife Carrying Festival is held annually in Finland in early July, and requires a man to negotiate a 253.5 m course while carrying their wife on their back. The course includes various surfaces and getting through dry land and water based obstacles. The prize to the winner is a mobile phone, and more importantly they also win their wife's weight in beer!
Rules
It may seem like just a bit of fun, but there are some official rules that have to be followed.
* the 'wife' must be over 17 years old.
* the 'wife' must weigh at least 49 kilograms.
* you do not have to be married to the 'wife', any suitable female will do.
* dropping and bouncing the 'wife' incurs a 15 second "fine".
* you must have fun!
Hotdog Eating
Nathan's Famous Hotdog Eating Contest is held in Coney Island, New York on July 4th each year. The aim of the competition is to eat the most number of hot dogs in 12 minutes.
In recent years the competition has been dominated by Japanese competitors.

Gurning is apparently a word for pulling a face, and you probably are not surprised to know that there is a World Gurning Contest.
Gurning competitions are thought to have originated in 1297 at the Egremont Crab Fair, in the UK, named after the crab apple, which are pretty sour. It makes sense then that as part of 'Crab Fair' in this part of the world they hold face pulling competitions to see who can make the ugliest face. This must be easier for some, though they make it easier by requiring you to also wear a horse collar at the same time. Gurning through a horse collar is known as "gurnin' through a braffin'. The competition is held in mid-september each year. To get an idea of what it involves, check out this gurning video.
There are competitions for men, ladies and juniors. England's best-known gurner is Peter Jackman, who won the world championship four times from 1998, with a face called the "Bela Lugosi".

Shin Kicking
The reason is that one person should kick the other person’s shins until some of them fall down. Their motto: If it ain’t broke, you’re not kicking hard enough. I think that it is very stupid, because someone can be hurt.
