Mauresmo recovers her shape
#1
Paris Open was recently won by Amelie Mauresmo, after a retirement in the match with Bartoli one week ago. Elena Demienteva was the "loser", 7-6 (9-7) 2-6 6-4

Let's remember that Mauresmo is a former world number one who had slipped to 24th in the rankings due to combination of injury and poor form.
Let's see if she's able to turn back the past and regain the first position.

I don't know... Mauresmo is already old. On July 5 she will be 30. That's a retiring age for tennis, let alone wta tours.

I wouldn't be so sure. Did you know that top five American women had an average age of 26.8 years?
If a kid asks where rain comes from, I think a cute thing to tell him is "God is crying." And if he asks why God is crying, another cute thing to tell him is "Probably because of something you did."

yes, so what? 4 years for tennis life is an eternity, so many things can change. When the sportsman is older it's not just that his reaction speed and moving speed becomes slower, his bones are weaker and have bigger risks to gain injuries.

Though I'm a big fan of Lena's, I'm very happy for Amelie. She needed this victory so much. It was so moving when she burst out crying after the mach. She used to be really great and I hope she'll be back.

watch her interview before the match http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2HWrxRBtfkE

I think she won the match due to her home - Paris. Spectators showed their best in supporting her.

she always looks so calm, as against players like Sharapova or Henin Harden. But I think this is her weakness. If only her temper would be harder, she would remain on the top position.

this is a fact. When a player screams and shouts his anger comes out and power increases. It gives confidence, a very necessary trait for any sport.

After she won Paris Open, this is what she said about her purpose:

"The ranking is not the goal," Mauresmo said. "You have to play a lot to be among the very best in the rankings. If I'm ranked 30th but win tournaments like this one, it doesn't bother me."
"I believe in making the world safe for our children, but not our children's children, because I don't think children should be having sex." Smile

Steve, I believe these are only words. Understand one thing: those who say that it's the participation that really matters and not the won place, are simply lying in order that the public loves them, actually they don't think this way.

not necessarily lying. Imagine that the 1st ranked has to play in the second round with the 89th ranked. There is no doubt that the first one will win, and the underdog knows it. However he will still play the game, as it's an honour to play with the first ranked, just for enjoying the play.

sometimes sensations happen. And you know when they happen? They happen when the beginner believes in his power while the professional is not focused to the game. So there is a big chance that the 89th beats the 1st.

unfortunately it's not about Mauresmo. She's weak in her spirit. One victory means little for the lasting road she's been through. For fully recovering she needs more proofs she is worth it.

her best year was 2007, most victories, and the worst year is 2005, only two finals played. By the way, why was that? Does anybody know? Did she had an injury or what?
