I am a vegetarian for many reasons.
1. I am against killing animals
2. My stomach refuses meat, doesn't digest it well
3. I think meat is doing much harm to the health
4. I eat less calories
5. Vegetarians have healthy life-style

In some way meat is healthy for our organism:
Animal muscle tissue consists primarily of protein with a varying amount of fat. An adequate protein intake is clearly important to health. Moreover, animal protein is a complete protein source, that is, it contains all the amino acids which are essential for human metabolism.
Meat and poultry are good sources of B vitamins except for folic acid. They are also rich in zinc and, except for veal, in iron. ('Milkfed' veal comes from young calves that are fed nothing but iron-poor milk. This causes anemia and gives the meat a pale color.)

Consumption of meat has its negative sides:
Meat and poultry contain quite a bit of fat, and about one-third of that fat is saturated. Saturated fatty acid in the diet has been shown to be positively correlated with total blood cholesterol levels, and negatively correlated with (beneficial) HDL cholesterol levels. In fact, plasma cholesterol levels are believed to be more sensitive to saturated fat intake than to dietary cholesterol.
Atherosclerosis is not the only illness that is promoted by a high intake of saturated fat. Saturated fat intake is at least as closely related to arterial and venous thrombosis, and is more closely related to the clotting activity of platelets and their response to thrombin than serum cholesterol. A high intake of animal fat may increase the risk of a number of cancers, including cancer of the colon, breast, prostate and pancreas.Saturated fat intake is also a risk factor for gallstones and dementia.
Meat and poultry are also a source of cholesterol. Using 300 mg of dietary cholesterol as a reasonable daily limit, a small (4-ounce) portion of cooked red meat contains about one-third of that amount -- roughly the same amount as that found in poultry or fish.

I think it's good to eat meat, but not very often and in small portions. But generally it is better than not to eat it at all. As it was mentioned it contains essential proteins and it is good for organism.

is healthy to eat anything but in limited quantities and prepared in a healthy way .... meat contain useful elements and vitamins the human body needs.... should not eat Salami they contain fat and nitrates especially if the sausage of the second quality ... but the fish meat, beef meat is very healthy

is not possible as healthy meat to be a factor to become obese! the parents of these children feed them with sausages, hot-dogs and meat from all fast foods thinking is healthy! they should read more and do love their children! if they would love would not feed with something that will make them obese

I have this discussion a lot :-) I have to admit that fat is the main reason I avoid meat
So, if we disregard the fat issue for a minute...
Would you catch a fish from your local river or lake and eat it? Where are the local factories, nuclear power stations and chemical plants are situated? ;-) Well, the fish you buy in the supermarket was caught in the sea that these rivers feed.
Now, plants are exposed to pollution too, but meat can contain high levels of toxins from what the animal has eaten. It's not just fish - there are potential issues surrounding livestock reared on areas that are contaminated with anthrax or nuclear fall out.
Animals are also often given steroids and antibiotics, as a result of modern intensive farming practises (which are far from idyllic). These drugs can then be present in the meat.
And do I need to remind you of the BSE (Mad Cow Disease) crisis?

What you know about lamb meat?
Lamb or kid into the category of red meat and is a good source of protein quality. For people healthy and physically active is a healthy option, but for those with certain problems (dyslipidemia, trigliceridemie, hypertension, hepato-renal, obesity ) is appropriate to eat lamb pieces in small quantities and only very weak. Depending on the section cut, lamb has a relatively high energy density: 200 to 300 Kcal/100 grams. Also, lamb contains: more potassium organs (especially liver), but the meat contains more iron that is absorbed very easily, calcium is in a smaller quantity, less vitamin E, folic acid, but in amounts lower.

Nutritionist recommends lamb stewed or cooked on a grill, avoiding fried foods as much as possible. Also garnish should contain as many vegetables as the meat does not contain fiber and vegetables will help to prevent constipation problems. Traditional lamb block should contain as many ingredients that will make it easier to stomach. So feel free to add a lot of greens and whole rice.

1. No association lamb / kid with bread, polenta or pasta for that slows digestion. Nutritionist recommends only association with veal with vegetables;
2. Do not eat fruit with meals, but only on an empty stomach. The only exceptions are pineapple and kiwi are given after a meal to ease digestion due to property;
3. Cake, cookies and pies are much more dangerous and more difficult than lamb, so must be consumed at a distance afternoon. They are very high in fat and carbohydrates, a combination that is very hard digestible and harmful
4. Avoid excess use of alcohol and smoking at the table because you'll aggravate digestion.

Specialists contraindicated goose liver because it is very greasy, hard to digest and can cause indigestion. The hardest digestible is pork, but the lamb also. Meat contains high quality protein with role in rebuilding tissue, which is why malnutrition, those placed in the convalescence period and anemics should consume this particular product.
For quality protein intake, meat must be fresh, have a glossy, red, have not suspicious odor. It is better to be consumed at lunch.

I'm MD; Dr. Dr (M.D&Ph.D) besides being an author-columnist. In accordance with my prodessional advice discipline and from the point of essential amino acids I dare say mankind and all carnivorous animals adding to them even the plants eats that flies and the like ought to consume eat in a good propotional turn in our menus changing from poultry to fish and the meat obtained from ranches!

Hi Dr SOLZHI! I am interested by your post :-) It is consistent with what my family doctors have told me over the years.
However - I have a problem with what you and they say. What are these good proportions? No doctor has ever answered this question! They always tell me to eat "a little of everything" in "good proportions." Then they tell me that I am overweight and am at high risk of developing heart disease and diabetes hock: They tell me I must cut down on sugar, salt, fat, do yet more exercise (I already do plenty!)...
So, I can only deduce that eating "a little of everything" in "good proportions" has damaged my health ;-)
I am starting to suspect that doctors don't want to help people - they want us to become sick and obese so that they can get us on diet pills and have gastric surgery! Please tell me it isn't so!
It would be most helpful if medical doctors either:
a) gave official backing to a certain diet plan or
b) wrote down, in a clear and concise manner, EXACTLY what we should eat in a typical day with EXACT portion measurements.

Exactly what Essential Amino Acid is present in meat that is not present in vegetarian food?

I'm twenty-one and have never eaten any meat in my entire life.
And I'm extremely healthy (though I should eat better, but I never get sick. Ever.)
Though it is true that a lot of people will get sick when turning vegetarian/vegan, because they just don't know how to eat properly. Meat has a lot of healthy vitamins and such, but all of that can be found in plant based foods as well. Though that doesn't mean you only have to eat salads.
If you get sick from not eating meat, you should probably try looking up some alternative sources for the nutrients in meat.
