What countries will enter the EU in future?
#26
I do not think you need to worry about Moldova becoming empty - many of the Polish and Baltic immigrants to the UK are now going back home, because the exchange rate is not so favourable (and their savings are worth less). I have heard that many of them support a family back in Poland, rather than moving the whole family to the UK. (Quite a few girls have discovered that their nice Polish boyfriend has a good Catholic wife and kids back home... )

It will be interesting to see what happens to the EU, now that we are entering a recession :? Hopefully the economic differences between EU states will level out with time.

Since we (UK) get so much of our oil and gas from Russia, we will have to start being nicer to Russia: we have plans to build more power stations, but it will be years before we stop relying on other countries. http://www.guardian.co.uk/commentisfree ... russia.oil

I have heard that some of the remaining eastern eauropean countries were not allowed in the EU, because of their human rights record? I have read a lot about human trafficking, etc...

It is so unfair for countries to depend on a country just because they have more natural resources. I think there should be formed a Global Resource Union, thanks to which all countries will be receiving an equal amount of oil, gas or other resources.

Hi Becka and thank you for your interesting post. I live in Moldova and I understand exactly the things you're talking about. Eastern European countries do have problems in all fields. Human rights and human trafficking is not an exception. The issue had reached its peak in the late '90s and beginning 2000. Fortunately now the situation is improving. EU assigned great amounts for recovering these problems. Results were not late to appear. We can see a lot of promotion campaigns against drugs, corruption, human trafficking etc.
Moldova is becoming more and more emptier every year. Statistics show that about 1,000,000 people left it. The trend is barely changing.

Why is that? The EU can't have a neighbour in the middle of Europe. It should be its member.

What about Switzerland? It obviously can have neighbour in the middle. What if Serbia does not want to enter? Would it be forced to join?

Switzerland is a rich country, as well as UK. Serbia won't resist the favour to join the EU, as against Switzerland.

Serbia want to become rich too. Now without ex-YU leaches, Serbia can work on itself. Who are you to tell us what we can or can not do? Many of us do not believe that EU is honest toward us. I think that they want just to use us for something I even do not want to know what it is. I do not believe EU, specially now that it is obvious EU want to destroy Serbia using Montenegro and Kosovo. I do not know why, we were sencearly frendly toward whole Europe in past.
If someone forces Serbians to do anything, they will do contra just inspite... fuck EU, we don't nead it. Just skip us please.

Sasha, relax. I'm not very informed with Serbia's case, I simply exposed my opinion. What you do is showing nationalistic signs.

Sorry, I'm just tired to explain everything. Just want to shake you little, just to see that there are other perspectives. Noone like others to act bossy all the time. Serbia is proud country which took some undeserved slaps in recent past. People from EU think they are so lucky and smart, but it could be false opinion. There are smart and honest people in other parts of the world too.

The way Europeans copy USA is very shamefull to Serbia. We do not want to act that way. We respect Europe, but just as neighbours and funny strangers. There are some good sides and Serbia will except only them. Sorry, but other things we do not want here. If you want us to consider joining the Union you must give us freedom to choose, even if we choose wrong.

Sasha, I understand your concern and point of view, but you must give some time for problems to clarify themselves and for the global community to become part of a solution. ;-)

Some time already have passed. Some things are very clear to an objective eye. It is clear that Europeans are not objective and force their own solutions as if these are the only solution. EU have started to use media not only for informational, but for propagandic goals to. Things are seen black&white, shallowly, without desire to look deeply and thorowly. This is about the same state of spirit that was in ex Yugoslavia and it led to desintegration. Soon enough we will see some forces of unitarism and power centralisation in EU. I do not want Serbia there at the time.
Serbia learned big lession from Yugoslavian dream and now is wake and fit, not willing to fall asleap again.

Let's make a vote. Who thinks EU will survive next 100 years.

1 - Not.

Sasha, regarding your question about survival of the EU, I will tell you that nothing lasts forever, and EU will die, but the question is when.

Well, everything is possible and it's definitely hard to tell, whether the EU will survive for another 100 years or not...

However, I think those baltic countries will enter the EU in the upcoming 20 or 30 years...

you just posted in another thread that EU "will surely survive for at least for another 50, 100 years or even forever", You're contradicting yourself.

Besides those we already know they are candidate, the Western Balkan will be a priority for the next 10-15 years, but I hope Moldova will be included too in this batch. Smile

Moldova has signed an action plan Moldova-EU in 2005. "Despite the changes that obviously occurred within the society, there is no doubt the authorities could do much better" said an EU official recently after making an assessment to the obtained results. Moldova might join EU in 2011, not earlier, I think.

Their main problem is the Russian army occupying their Eastern province of Transnistria, just like in Georgia, to"protect Russian minority". Moldova cannot join the EU along with the Russian troops which don't retire from Transnistria despite Russia's international commitment. :banghead

If the citizens of Transnistria don't want to live together with Moldova, I doubt any successes will be achieved. This is the same as with South Ossetia. Ossetians don't wanna be Georgians. So I guess, the land you call Transnistria will never live in peace with Moldova.

Now, what told us Mother EU about Kosovo? It isn't a precedent! Apparently Romanians and Moldovans didn't believe it because they didn't recognize Kosovo.
The future, according to Americans and their satellites is a tribal Europe, with tiny "ethnic" powerless countries where the division can go at any scale just to satisfy the minority claims. So, if a Russian minority immigrated in the 30s in Moldova should have the right to it's own country why not Maghrebians in South of France, Hindus in the UK, Turks in Germany should have the same right. Transnistria is an even more dangerous precedent than Kosovo, because Russians are immigrants in Moldova. :x
