Why is US politics and commentary so concerned with political partisanship?
#1
Decreasing partisan politics has been a major theme in Presidential US politics for a while now and I cannot see why so much hot air is wasted on the issue. Will any good come out of this debate? What's the root cause of it? Does anyone, even in politics, think that they will magically change their ways?

It's a good diversion for politicians to use to avoid having to confront real issues.

Well, we've been far to partisan for far too long. Too many votes are split directly down party lines. I'm glad that at least Washington is willing to admit their faults now. Hopefully, they'll be able to fix it.

Doubtful, but hopeful.

Partisanship is a product of a two party system. It will always be present as long as choice is so limited. In theory it represents two polar opposites in thinking. At one time this might have been true, but recent events show that the party ideologies are merging. However, even though it may be merging at the elected level, it has not changed at the base level. There are still different ideologies among the people, but our leaders do not appear to be true to their constituents. This does not mean that we should abandon our belief systems, but it should be a warning sign that we need to examine our choices for leadership. Our leaders know this and continue the charade for their own benefit. As long as the populace stays embroiled in the us versus them mentality we are not really looking at who the real enemy is, or what they doing against all of our interests.

Because the lines are are drawn in black and white, left and right and it's the only way most American do politics or ever want to. Nothing wrong with that. It's their democracy and they play it by their own rules.

Here in UK the divide is much less obvious even to the casual observer.
