The Melamine Scandal
#1
Melamine – Unfortunately a new notion for regular people to discuss from now on.

53000 babies were recently reported to be suffering because of a stupid combination: milk and melamine. This case is one of the largest and, because of its “targeted” audience – painful to witness “production accident”. But if this is not enough, first investigations showed that melamine was found in other products as candies.

EU had already stopped any import of China products, and apparently no casualties happened.

But the question is: how to limit companies to stop running for capital ignoring safety and moral standards?

You would think people would learn, after Mad cow disease and Sunset Yellow... It seems that companies and poliiticians don't care what's in our food, so long as large profits result :nonnon

Fortunately European control is much stricter than the one from China. Chinese seem to have a bad reputation in regards to any products - starting with food and ending with technology. Only Chinese natural medicines seem to be useful for the society.
Now let's learn why these products contained melamine?
It's all about money saving, as Karl mentioned. Chinese producers want to make their products cheaper, because of very big competitiveness in the world, but especially in China. In order to reduce costs and keep the product giving the same feeling, producers decided to add melamine into products, because this artificial chemical substance gives artificial calories for the organism, so that it doesn't feel hungry. The point is that, if producers didn't add this substance into their products, they would have to add something instead, which would be natural and consequently more expensive. Melamine is used for certain animal food (especially for horses). Now, just compare the proportions of a horse and a child. It's the sky and the ground. That's why melamine causes deviations in the normal working of the human body. For being more specific, consumption of melamine causes kidney stones and other renal failure. In the Netherlands, recently some cookies were detected to have melamine. The producer was already banned for exporting his products, but, I address to Dutch, if you have Chinese products, don't venture your life, just throw them away.

I'm sure that it's dangerous to buy anything for children from China. Even Chinese toys - they look so good, but there are two reasons for not buying it:
1. breaking quickly
2. not safe paint chemical composition

Believe it or not, most of the dairy products from China were contained an extremely high Melanime and it can be killed even an elephant!

This melamine is very dangerous because it may leave negative effects to the child for the rest of his life. Moreover, this could modify his genetics and might be passed to the next generations as well.

Melamine by itself is nontoxic in low doses, but when combined with cyanuric acid it can cause fatal kidney stones due to the formation of an insoluble melamine cyanurate.

And melamine is simply not food. Adding melamine to diary is a crime and I hope the responsible for this were severely punished.

45 Chinese companies began to produce products that contain melamine after the Government exempted them from controls of the General Administration for Quality Supervision, Inspection, and Quarantine (AQSIQ)

All I can say here is the Chinese businessmen are very selfish and don't have any ethicals at all...

They're only care about the money and they should be punished for their irresponsibility behaviours!

Thanks Willy. I share your opinion and have also noticed they are greedy. What is the reason for that? Is it because China is so poor and some Chinese simply want to be richer?

WEll, I don't think poverty is the main reason here, Peter.

As far as I knew, the majority of the Chinese were being taught not to be mercy to other and should think of themselves in the very first place, no matter what happened to the family or country!

It's a very pathetic situation, and all they know it's how to extend the goods expiration date without being concerned about the healthy of consumers.

That's why this really pissed me off and I think they should be burned in hell! :evil

don't discriminate Chinese to that extent. What I knew is that they are pretty friendly people and do care about each other. The way the Beijing Olympic Games were organized proves this fact.

Well, Peter. I glad you know my situation Smile

Don't be so sure, as there is still many toxic products that available on the market and it's need time to discover them...

Italy has recently closed some stores because of finding doses of Melamine in certain Chinese products.
After this scandal, the normal Chinese producers will have to suffer a lot because of some careless producers. That's a pity, one shouldn't be mistreated because of his colleagues' actions.
