Depends how You define genocide. I'm prety sure about following:
Georgian army did first attack to Tskhinvali at night - they were not targeting their fire to any military
objects but to civilian buildings - there has been used for example grads and so one. Buildings are
burned and in ruins. When You see photos from there it seems obvious that there must have been
massively dead people. Some says that over 2000 but it is not confirmed information.

1) Georgia always wanted to be in EU
2) K.Rise told to Saakashvilly that only that countries can be in EU who have territorial union. No Ossetians no Abkhazians didn't want to be a part of Georgia. They wanted to be a separates republics. And Saakashvilly decided to forced them
3) At 22:00 07.08.2008 Georgia attacked South Ossetia. At 3:30 08.08.2008 the tanks of the Georgian armies entered the city of Tskhinvali. Georgians killed Russian peacekeepers. They started to destroy eveyone...At the same time in Georgia broadcasting of all TV channels was prohibited (exept one Georgian channel with Saakashvilli's propoganda) The Internet was locked! Georgians were hearing only their president. The informational war was started. Georgia made their own reports and showed them for people. They shot on camera their OWN guns, bombing Ossetia, and showed all the world that RUSSIA bombs Georgia! Georgia showed people destroyed (by themselves!!!!!)houses in Osetia and declared that RUSSIA did this! It was a lieing!
Of course, the USA and Saakashvilly made a great plan: all Europe and America watched "Russian agressions", while Georgians soldiers killed the Ossetians. Thanks to Mass Media, Russia became an agressor - Georgia- victim. Funny, isn' it?
4) At this point Georgia took a support of Europe. Bush and Saakashvilly are happy. Georgia join to EU, Russia is hated. Great plan, isn'it? There is no secret that America hates Russia because afraid of our power. So, this way two aims were riched: 1) Georgia is in the EU, 2) The USA built his military bases near the Russian Federation. So simple!

Georgians does not attack Russians ( evry time Russinans were attacked themselfs, only one was germans). So called S. Osethia is historicaly Georgians teritory for many centuries. Osetians were living there and in north of caucasus too but mainly north from Georgia. Russian politicas in 19-20-th cent.( and in 21 -th too) is to separate caucasian people and to put in there minds that they are anamies to each other.
