The touchscreen secrets
#1
Technology that forms the basis touchscreen devices is not new, the first tactile interface appear in 1971. Tactile interfaces are based on a very simple and very complex technology. User shall not use the mouse cursor to lead to the desired point, but will make it direct with hand on a screen, which will know where contact occurs. The way the device will achieve a location is different, depending on the technology used. Basically, the touch screen is composed of several layers, each with a well defined role.

Currently, there are several types of touch screens: Resistive, Capacitive, Surface Acoustic Wave, Infrared, etc.
Screen Resistive is the oldest and most widespread - is that you use when you remove money from the ATM. The device consists of a layer of glass covered with a conductive and resistive metallic layer. These two layers are kept at distance, while a final scratch-resistant layer is placed over the entire set. The electric current flow between the two layers when the monitor is operational. When users touch the screen, the two layers come into contact even in that place. Change of electric field is detected and the computer will calculate the coordinates of contact point. Then, a special driver "translate" information in the language of the operating system, which will locate the exact point reached by the user and the function or menu item is activated.

At a screen "Capacitive", the superior layer, store an electric charge, suffering minor modifications when the user reaches the surface with his finger. Part of the load is transferred to the finger and the computer will calculate exactly where the contact occurred. One of the advantages of Capacitive Screen is increased brightness, compared with Resistive Screen.

Different is and how screens register a touch. If a screen "Resistive" detect events when the two layers come into contact, which means it does not matter if you touch the system with a finger or other object, "Capacitive" screen needs a conductor, usually your finger.

The next step in terms of touchscreen technology is the detecting of multiple touches in the same time. This feature was already implemented in some devices like the iPhone or Microsoft Surface. In the near future, besides achieving detection, in one or more points at once, the new interface, which likely will be launched with the second generation of iPhones will make the difference between stronger and the light touch, adding a new control element in the whole system.

Interest in touch screens to mobile phones has increased remarkably in the last year. If until recently the technology was particularly prevalent in PDAs, as Capacitive screen, she moved in the mobile phones world. That's because it is more convenient to access a menu, to type a message or surf the Internet using such a device. Keep in touch with the latest technology that can simplify life!

How it happens: signal transform from the touch screen to the processor as electrical impulses. The processor uses software to determine the data and analyze the features of each touch. With the help of this it includes location, shape and size of the affected area on the screen. If it is need, the processor arranges touches with similar features in the groups. If you move finger, the processor identifys the difference between the starting point and the ending point of your finger.
