Well can we defend our peacekeepers that are working on maintaining peace? You think this attack could go unnanswered? You were warned, and there is a say "warned means protected", you ignored everything and payd your price.

Sorry all, we can not reach agreement here. I had a very good experience with "independence" while we started talking about globalization, we managed to reach the conclusion...That was the reason why I opened new topic Russian Modern Geopolitics....It will be easier to talk there and find what really russia wants...The topic by itself does not give us possibility to talk about blood, death, killing and so on...This is good way to give everyone possibility to reach reality..............

There are a lot of videos on both sides....Esp. I know how Russian TVs are editing videos, just see the film about Ossettian girl and her mother in FOX, than see what russian TV did with that film.....In some extent, both sides Russians and Georgians are trying to present the facts as they want them to look....This is war of Propaganda, it is logical. Just what we have to do not to become the part of this propaganda....It does not matter it is Georgian or Russian.....One thing is clear, the whole western world beleives to russian aggression, this is not the result of Georgian propaganda, Many Europeans and Americans visited the conflict zone, what do you think all are blinds or Georgian government is faking even the reality in conflict zone.....

Thanks God, Russian people are not the same as Russian Government.....Yes many Georgians work there, but most of them have small businesses...Kremline is not interested in such affairs.....But there are a lot of cases, when Russian nationalist gangs kill not only georgians but people of other nationality...This is the sign of terrible desease, which is called racism......So, yes we still think that there are a lot of reasonable people in russia, but I do not think that EU1( if he is russian) and Giovane is among them. Peacemakers must not carry heavy weaponry. Russians call their regular arms peacemakers.

In such case Peacemakers would have been destroyed. Right thing to do.

Russia fails to secure regional backing

Dmitry Medvedev, Russian president, failed on Thursday to win support from China or the former Soviet republics of central Asia in his deepening dispute with the west over military action in Georgia.

At a central Asian summit in Tajikistan, Mr Medvedev was unable to persuade Hu Jintao, the Chinese president, or other regional leaders to give explicit backing to Russia’s intervention or its decision to recognise the independence of the two breakaway regions, South Ossetia and Abkhazia.

While the leaders refrained from criticising Russia, their joint statement gave the Kremlin only modest comfort. “[We] express grave concern in connection with the recent tensions around the South Ossetian issue and urge the sides to solve existing problems peacefully, through dialogue, and to make efforts facilitating reconciliation and talks,” said a final statement from the Shanghai Co-operation Organisation, which groups Russia, China, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Uzbekistan and Tajikistan. The leaders welcomed the French-brokered ceasefire deal that ended the fighting between Russia and Georgia and acknowledged Russia’s role in the Caucasus, saying they supported “Russia’s active role in contributing to peace and co-operation in the region”.

Before the summit China had expressed its “concern” about “the latest changes in South Ossetia and Abkhazia”, an unusual move for Beijing which generally refrains from negative comment about Russia. Chinese officials declined to comment on Thursday but western diplomats in Beijing said the summit statement fitted closely with Chinese views. China had avoided any anti-western flourishes and – an absolute priority – any support for separatism.

China, with restless ethnic minorities in Tibet and Xinjiang province, is concerned about precedents that might be set in Georgia, as are the central Asian states.

Russian officials put a brave face on the summit.

Ivan Melnikov, deputy chairman of Russia’s Communist party, claimed Russia had received great support and he was “convinced that the endorsement of the declaration has put a stop to all this speculation about the international isolation of Russia”.

But Yevgeny Volk, an analyst in Moscow for the Heritage Foundation, a US think- tank, said the result of the summit illustrated the opposite. “The statement was very equivocal,” he said. “This shows Russia’s isolation.” Robert Wood of the US state department said: “Russia, I think you are seeing, is becoming more and more isolated: they are isolating themselves. You haven’t seen countries come forth and recognise these two parts of Georgia’s territory”.

● Belarus, perhaps Russia’s closest ally in the former Soviet Union, said on Thursday Moscow had “no choice” about recognising South Ossetia and Abkhazia but it declined to follow suit.

Abkhazia is a historical province of Georgia. Two aboriginal populations – Abkhazians and Georgians lived there in the course of hundred of years. Please see below the data concerning general censuses of the populations of Abkhazia carried out before annexation of this territory by Russia in 19-th century, as well as afterwards in soviet time.
Census in 1861: Georgians – 50.6%; Abkhazians – 41.2%; Armenians – 1.6%; Russians – 1.8%, Greeks – 1.7%.
Census in 1926: Georgians – 36.3%; Abkhazians – 30%; Armenians – 13.9%; Russians – 6.7%, Greeks – 4.8%.
Census in 1989: Georgians – 45.7%; Abkhazians – 17.8%; Armenians – 14.6%; Russians – 14.2%, Greeks – 4.9%.
In 1993 Russian occupants expatriate from Abkhazia region of Georgia about 250 000 (more then 45 % of total population of Abkhazia) Georgian civilians. Thousands of them were brutally tortured to death. After this ethnic cleansing, the Russian government gave the Abkhaz separatists political, economic, as well as military supports. Abkhaz separatists misappropriate the property of Georgia refugees. Afterwards Russia carried out a referendum for independence of Abkhazia. Recently Russian occupants entered the Kodori gorge (a region of Abkhazia until recently controlled by Georgian government), as well as South Ossetia to commit a new act of ethnic cleansing. Houses of Georgian civilians have been burned.

On 14 August 1992 the Republic of Georgia launched an armed attack against Abkhazia aiming at abolishment of the statehood of Abkhazia and at depriving of its people of their political independence. The Georgian occupational forces, among whom were thousands of criminals deliberately released from their prisons, perpetrated war crimes: they destroyed towns and other settlements, destroyed items of great cultural value for the nation, including the Central State Archives of Abkhazia and the unique Abkhazological Research Institute, treated prisoners of war and the wounded with cruelty, killed and raped peaceful civilians, looted and seized public and private property. The Georgian military-political authorities were guided by the principle "Abkhazia without the Abkhazians", which was officially confirmed on 25 August 1992 by G. Karkarashvili, the Commander-in-Chief of the occupational troops in his televised address. The Georgian population of Abkhazia, especially the inhabitants of the settlements created during the Stalin period, took a most active part in mass killings of Abkhazians, including children, women and elderly.
As a result of the ethnic cleansing, practically no Abkhazian population was left on the occupied part of Abkhazia, including the towns of Ochamchyra, Sukhum and Gagra. For example, according to the data of the Procurator's Office of Abkhazia, out of 7 thousand of Abkhazians residing in the city of Ochamchyra, over 400 were forced to be registered as Georgians, hundreds of Abkhazians were killed, and the rest had to flee in order to save their lives.

The following photographs were sent by the journalist (who I will not name due to his safety) who took the photo materials of the Concentration Camps (which they call detention camps) in Russian occupied Tskhinvali were so far hundreds of Georgian civilians are kept. He took these images with his cell phone camera and forwarded them to Human Rights Watch.

There are striking similarities with Srebrenica tragedy. According to refugees and HR, men are taken away to forests after which point nobody knows of their whereabouts. Similar camps are set up in other towns in occupied "South Ossetia." Note, the musical concert is held by the Russian military near this camp. We are getting more images and evidences, which are submited to the War Crimes Trubunal in Hague which just recently accepted the case of ethnic-cleansing of Georgians and will start the hearing on September 3rd. 15 May 2008 General Assembly of U.N.O approved a resolution concerning homecoming of Georgian refugees to Abkhazia. Russian, as well as Iran, Venezuela, North Korea, Serbia, Syria, Sudan, Byelorussia voted against this resolution. If you want, you can check it.
As to the recent act of ethnic cleansing in South Ossetia, I can address you to an interview of the leader of Ossetian separatist Kokoity (Medvedev and Putin often meet him in Kremlin) in the Russian newspaper “Komersant”. He said that Ossetian militants “fully cleaned out” Georgian villages on the territory of unrecognized republic, and Ossetians never permit them (Georgians) come back...

On 14 August 1992 the Republic of Georgia launched an armed attack against Abkhazia aiming at abolishment of the statehood of Abkhazia and at depriving of its people of their political independence. The Georgian occupational forces, among whom were thousands of criminals deliberately released from their prisons, perpetrated war crimes: they destroyed towns and other settlements, destroyed items of great cultural value for the nation, including the Central State Archives of Abkhazia and the unique Abkhazological Research Institute, treated prisoners of war and the wounded with cruelty, killed and raped peaceful civilians, looted and seized public and private property. The Georgian military-political authorities were guided by the principle "Abkhazia without the Abkhazians", which was officially confirmed on 25 August 1992 by G. Karkarashvili, the Commander-in-Chief of the occupational troops in his televised address. The Georgian population of Abkhazia, especially the inhabitants of the settlements created during the Stalin period, took a most active part in mass killings of Abkhazians, including children, women and elderly.
As a result of the ethnic cleansing, practically no Abkhazian population was left on the occupied part of Abkhazia, including the towns of Ochamchyra, Sukhum and Gagra. How interesting is this.Abkhz did not want independence as other country.They didn't know even what does it mean for a long long time. They just had experience being punished by Russia and Stalin. When Georgia anonced independence, they sad: "We'll stay with Russia" and nothing was mentioned as being separated from anybody. And this independence is just a formal act to let somehow to russian trups stay any longer based on some"legal" act.
