I was in Belgium last week, and I was fined by the local police for parking in a restricted area. Now I'm back in Germany. Does EU have some kind of a mechanism to pay the fine received in the other country, which is also a EU member? And if I don't pay will I be fined again for this by the local police?

Hi Karl,
the fine you received must specify the mode you should pay it off through. If not, there certainly should be a phone number or something, why don't you try reaching those contacts?

I have two tickets from Germany, and never paid them, no problem.

Hey guys, you are dealing with fire. I may be arrested one day. And for what? For an unpaid bill? I wouldn't risk if I were you

I'd pay it Steven, but I didn’t really understand why he gave me it, I just stopped to buy a road map, that's all. The policeman was French; otherwise I don't think I would've received it in the end. :|

you probably parked the car on unauthorized place or something. I don't think the French policeman would write you off a bill for nothing. Also, there might be some specific road rules there.

From what Nicholas have mentioned, I just want to remark that I'm very sorry that the EU authorities don't have a central database for such things.
Leaving tickets unsolved is not the way. My friend told me that you might get stopped when you’ll try next time to cross the border…

what if the fine that is to be paid is growing if you don't pay it on time? Have you thought about that, guys?

I don’t know about growing but there could be some penalties for not paying the in time.

I think that's what Steven mentioned. I somehow understand your wish of not being subject to these fines, but if you are, pay them. Other more serious circumstances may occur you in the future, and these fines will make them tougher.

It’s an absolute shame that after so many years of the EU, its member’s population is so badly informed about such things.

That is because there is no active interest of the EU citizens about The European Union.
