"When asked what measures the west could take against Russia in the crisis over Georgia, Bernard Kouchner told a press conference in Paris: "Sanctions are being considered."
He gave no details, but the threat reflects western impatience at Moscow after its invasion of Georgia and its recognition of Georgia's breakaway provinces, South Ossetia and Abkhazia, as independent."

The question is will EU be able to sanction Russia and what sanctions would that be?

Where are Russian principles? They did not allow independence to Chechnya, why are they allowing it now to South Ossetia and Abkhazia??
Both Chehcnya and Kosovo have about 80 % of the population belonging to the "local" ethnicity (Chechens and Albanians, not Russians or Serbs). Neither of them was supported by Russia.

That is all about the conflict and tension with USA over the anti-missile systems.

My answer is NO Not yet. because when you have to deal with psichicaly abnormal person you must be carefull not to loose your life - they are agressiv. So treatment with electroshocks must be used at the end of the treatment.A t first it better to begin with medicines.

I read in a newspaper that European leaders are quite friendly with Medvedev in unofficial talks. What I understood is that EU leaders are somehow trying to maintain relations with the USA, that's why officially they claim not their own opinion, but an imposed one (imposed by circumstances). But actually, they think different.

I think that EU should sanction Russia for the crisis. I dont think that the sanctions would be strict but it will be somehow the warning signal for the abnormal bear -"take into considaration the EU"...

My friend! Warning signal is just signal, but sanctions are actions. They are two diffrent things.
I think, that europe should do sanction only after scrupulos investigation of this conflict.

Some days ago the independent European commision visited Tskinval, where European diplomats sow all destroyed buildings, houses. They talked to citizens of Tskenval who told them about this war, who told them about the real aggressor - GEORGIA! But what did we see afterwards? On European summit the disscussing of this problem (after visiting!!!!!) was repealed. That is the answer!! Diplomats learnt the truth, but they didin't want to go against NATO and its master - the Unated States. Europe depends of America!

Europe is getting only warnings to Russia at this time only because of its energetic and military power, not because it wasn't its fault to start the ar, think about it.

It's a pity that you believe only one "side". But why no one did not visit Tskinval and didn't see it with your own eyes! It's a tragedy for the nation, for the Ossetians. And gilty people should be punished!

Well said. I will think about it thank you and every russian should. Too bad it arent words of some official, for example Sarkozy. But it is obvius that they think the same, or at least it is thier policy. I know that diplomats are not usualy speaking treats but it could make many things clear for many our citizens.

Europe is doing the right thing for not sanctioning Russia. Guys, just think a little, do you need a war in Europe? I don't think so. Let it be Georgia's and Russia's matter, not the entire Europe's one.

Thats exactly the Russians' calculation.
i know people who would get drunk first and initiate discussing the prolematic issues afterwards.
Everyone will think, its etter not to get involved in a confict with unpredictable person, so he can get what he wants.
Bluffing it is called.
I am curious if you apply the same "this is not entire Europe's matter" if Russia provokes and hits Lithuania? Poland? uummm... Germany??
Encouraged by passiveness of EU Russia will continue its bloodthirsty politics. You will see the next conflict very soon.

Does it need it? It is better to sale energy supply to Europe than to make war. Russia can strike Lithuania or Poland, these whores of the USA, if they first attack Russia or its allies like Bielorussia, but it is unlikely so calm down, man, EU is in safe

It is the US who is pushing EU to sanction Russia, but it is not in EU's interest to provoke Russia, which supplies 40% of Europe's energy needs. US is upset that they could not act freely in the world. Russia called their bluff. So to keep their face they try to pin the conflict on Russia, shamelessly ignoring the facts. Just like Bush did with Iraq. He kept saying Saddam-Osama, Saddam-Osama.... After he repeated it a million times, Americans became convinced that Saddam was supporting Bin Laden. (when in fact Bin Laden hated Saddam and was calling him a communist) Although Americans might have just been confused with names and countries. There was a study that said that more then 50% of Americans cannot show Afganistan or Iraq on a world map. So, go figure. :haha

The fact is that Russia did not break International law so there is nothing to punish for.
Actually, the world now is "Global Village" and nobody want to loose a Russian market. Please notice that Ford Focus was a best selling car in Russia last year.
So please lets do buisness and nothing else.

And I hope that Georgians know what international law their Government broke or not? Ай-я-яй, Саакашвили, как нехорошо! Накануне Олимпиады в "войнушки" начинать играть!
Remember, "uncle" Bush just used you in his own aims. Thanks for helping him
