Research against propaganda (useful links)
#1
First a joke: “Q.: The clean man and the dirty man – which one shall go to bath? A.: The clean man likes cleanness, so he shall go to bath; the dirty man shall not go, because he is the dirty one.” Smile

I hope, this will not be the case in using informational internet links I am going to provide below, for, I hope, they will be used more often and intensively by those who are least (not most) informed or by those who are just most misinformed on certain issues.
I deliberately give a general title to the topic so that more people can join it. Although I am going to post links that focus more on one particular region in Europe, we all may have similar questions on any other regions (just as I have recently needed to find reliable sources on the net about Bosnia and Herzegovina).
Now I’ll write a few introduction lines of mine – it’s just my personal opinion, not facts yet. This will be my personal opinion only. Smile You see, I repeated it twice, so please be correct to make no generalizations about my region based on this personal opinion of mine.

My opinion is that there is enduring anti-Baltic propaganda that is not visible in other countries because it is launched very selectively. Explanation: As country C may punch country A and, simultaneously, praise a similar or different country B; country B might think A is “anti-C” while country A might speculate that B is “pro-C”. In fact, it is just selectively divisive politics of C towards A and B that creates this illusion. Not to mention, that the situation within country A may indeed provide instruments for C to press on A, while B may not allow for as much pressing as in case of A. So applying sharply contrast tactics of C on different countries may create an illusion of A and B being much more different in their good will to country C. Now please just consider the policy of privileged regions or regions of special interests that Russia announced officially, and you should have much less doubt in the plausibility of my explanation.
My view is that a free democratic country needs no special propaganda – just the truth, even if it may be in certain instances quite an unpleasant or inconvenient truth.
I can also theoretically admit there might be some anti-Russian propaganda; however I am very reserved about sources in Russia itself as long as it lacks badly the standards of freedoms that Europe enjoys. As long as it lacks freedom, I am not surprised that history still is not a science in Russia but a half-fiction story to serve the needs of propaganda. It is a truly Machiavellian approach of the central power in Russia. This only can explain such nonsense when some Russian “historian” says deportations of Estonians to Siberia we not all so bad because not all Estonians died there (‘Russian "professor": Estonians had good life in Siberia’, <!-- m --><a class="postlink" href="http://www.zone.ee/bronze-soldier/index.html">http://www.zone.ee/bronze-soldier/index.html</a><!-- m -->). I hope you also know Putin’s Russia made a step back to the older lies of the Soviet Union on the quite clear fact of the Soviet occupation of the Baltic States.

It certainly is a good way to "Research against propaganda". It seems that for You the "truth" is what
suits to Your own opinions - and everything else is either propaganda or lies. Just like when we
talked about Machiavelli - You don't like him - so for You everything he wrote is lies. I don't like him
either, but it doesn't undo his visions of e.g. power being mostly true ....
Btw. What You think about Darwin's evolution theory .... I suppose it is hard for You to accept it

I had another view on the meaning of "anti-Russian". It was a catch. :| (see my previous posts)
Quote:And after that You gave links to sites - all situated in Estonian, Latvian or Lithuanian domains :haha ....
Sure, you'd like them to be situeted on the other side of the moon. When in Estonia, don't trust anybody - buy alcohol at your Embassy only! It is not situated on the Estonian domain. Smile
Estonians, Latvians, and Lithuanians don't have the right to make a normal research, they do not have the right to establish international commissions, they do not have the right to invite acknowledged specialists, they do not have the right to open their archives, they probably don’t even have the right for internationally accredited universities to be placed on their soil, and maybe they don’t have the right to speak at all? Every time they have to keep their mouth shut and listen how freaks teach professors. :fi
The International Commission for the Evaluation of the Crimes of the Nazi and Soviet Occupation Regimes in Lithuania was established In 1998, and it included 14 member among whom there were:
Yuri Afanasyev who was then Rector of Russian State Humanitarian University,
Sir Martin Gilbert, professor of London University,
Dr.Joachim TAUBER , Director of the Archives of the Institute of Culture of the North-East Germany,
Liudas Truska professor of Vytautas Magnus University,
Saulius Sužiedėlis professor of Millersvilly University,
Dalia Kuodytė, Director of the Genocide and Resistance Research Center of Lithuania,
and several more researches and other competent persons (also professors).
What may somebody have against such institutions as European Network against Racism (ENAR), Fundamental Rights Agency (FRA), European Racism and Xenophobia Information Network (RAXEN; part of FRA), European Initiative for Democracy and Human Rights (EIDHR), European Network of Legal Experts in the non-discrimination field, Court of Justice, UN Commission on Human Rights, Office of the Unitet Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights (OHCHR), Special Rapporteur on Contemporary Forms of Racial Discrimination, Xenophobia and Related Intolerance, Committee on the Elimination of Racial Discrimination, Human Rights Committee, Council of Europe, European Commission against Racism and Intolerance (ECRI), Office of the Commissioner for Human Rights, European Court of Human Rights (ECHR), Organization for Security and Co-operation in Europe (OSCE), High Commissioner on National Minorities (HCNM), Office for Democratic Institutions and Human Rights (ODIHR), and Personal Representative of the Chairman-in-Office on combating anti-Semitism at the permanent Council in Vienna - the links all on the site of the International Commission in Lithuania? :fi

No need to answer insinuations. Go back and read once again.

One plain guy may put forward so many odd ideas that even the whole institute of pundits won't be able to answer. Darwin is lucky not to witness deevolution of species.

Of course they have the right to do that - but it is naive to believe they are unbiased. So when You started
a topic "Research against propaganda (useful links)" by giving links unilaterally only to their sites - it seems
not "research" but more like propaganda itself.

So how can You make people to listen Your "professors" ?
This is a free world - so obviously we can't use sanctions against non listeners. So the only solution is
Your "professors" to learn to speak more unbiased and interestingly. Incoherent hypothesis and emotional
yatter is not very interesting. And btw. what locally happened "nowhere" some 60 years ago is far less more
interesting than what is happening today.

This is the most realistic post of this topic. Not that I don't care about the legal responsibility of some people for their actions, it is just some other people try unconsciously building social discrepancies and tensions that have the same speculative motivation.

I‘ll give you a link to the original research made by three Russians on the subject which I call anti-Russian propaganda made by the Putinists.
Commissars of the Internet (EN), September 16, 2006
<!-- m --><a class="postlink" href="http://lrtranslations.blogspot.com/2007/02/commissars-of-internet.html">http://lrtranslations.blogspot.com/2007 ... ernet.html</a><!-- m -->

The authors observed that “what one finds on Russian web-forums is an orgy of hatred, xenophobia, racism, anti-Semitism, violent propaganda, amoral barbarism and raving. A normal person, after reading forums like these, becomes ill.
They noted that it had not been so initially. Second, there is come contradiction about it:
Quote:Until 1998-1999, forums on the RuNet were fairly uniform in the sociological characteristics of their users. About 70-80% of the audience consisted of people in agreement with one another, people of liberal and democratic persuasions, representatives of the Russian middle class, and Russian-speaking émigrés. Now, just four years later, totalitarian opinions have suddenly risen to 60-80% of all postings on Russian forums.
This sharp quantitative spike has not corresponded with the range of public opinion, and is at odds with data from Internet polls on current issues of modern life.
Then an investigation follows, and every detail of it cries for our attention. It’s a thrilling article. I provide the first link to the translated article above, although I read the original Russian version and I do not know if the translation is perfect (haven’t checked the translation).
I stroke upon this text today, and it was very useful for me to understand why Russian chauvinism is so vastly presented on the internet forums, while the opposition to it from Russia looks meek.
My view is that such means as described in the article aimed at the distortion of democratic discussion in Russia constitute the part of other coercive methods which altogether have the goal to hijack the political discourse in Russia by the group of imperialists and new fascists, and these methods all deserve to be called anti-Russian propaganda.
While proponents of such methods call them “nationalization of minds”, it is “ideological cleansing” in fact. Democrats are being purged off the forums. Then the task of brainwashing of the rest of the usually young public becomes much easier. It would be just consequent if recruiting for doing similar tasks on the foreign international forums would then take place much easier, too. Of course, this would require some adaptation to the international audience. It’s also not necessary that every participant makes this task as part of his duty in some organization. If a person comes from the brainwashed community, he/she can make it voluntarily on perception of his/her conviction and his/her individual duty. The goal of such “commissars of the internet” on the international stage should also be different. One of the most obvious goals seems to be convincing us that they represent the true face of Russia, and that the different way of thinking is marginal in Russia.
We should not mix up temporary tendencies in the nation’s life with the nation itself. Was an opposition to Nazism “anti-German”? Nazism was defeated but the nation keeps living on without it. Putinism is now a tendency in Russia but it will be defeated.

This is the most realistic post of this topic. Not that I don't care about the legal responsibility of some people for their actions, it is just some other people try unconsciously building social discrepancies and tensions that have the same speculative motivation.
First I thought that this (cumulative) comment is the most sinister post of this topic. But it is just wrong in denying obvious facts. Disinformation attacks and propaganda wars are the part of reality. They capture people’s minds. People clash over the meanings of events that took place 60 years ago, over the facts and different interpretations.
Sixty years is not so much. There are still living people affected by the events which took place 60 years ago. There are still consequences and legal issues to be dealt in the present because of those events. First of all, these events are important as part of the present, and then only as part of the history.
This forum contains posts that prove definitely that these events were important for people in making their judgment on some current events. Had it not been because of other previous posts referring to such events, I would have not started this topic.
Moreover, the topic was not about any events as old as 60 years, although they were meant too. And, for example, occupation of the Baltic States ended just 15 – not 60 – years ago.
I understand there are people who don’t want crimes against humanity, war crimes to be discussed. When somebody reminds of such issues, especially events which for some reasons have been untouched for long time, these people start the offence. Recently, we saw such reaction on some internet sites to the new film about the old events:
German war film A Woman in Berlin opens old wounds over Red Army rapes
<!-- m --><a class="postlink" href="http://entertainment.timesonline.co.uk/tol/arts_and_entertainment/film/article4981683.ece">http://entertainment.timesonline.co.uk/ ... 981683.ece</a><!-- m -->
For those who don‘t care of anything beyond their own individual or collective ego, there is no need in commenting it. So I don’t understand why they try to preside as judgers over those who care.

Finally, I would recommend visiting web pages of institutions of science and education in the Baltic States to learn a bit more of these states. Lithuania had its first university established much earlier than the state that one snobbish, cynical and ignorant commentator says to come from.

I don't understand what that person want. What do he want to say? Is it to say that Estonians, Latvians, and Lithuanians have always been week nations unable to figth because the are cowards and have not succeed to built strong nation becuse of their genetical nazism? Is it to say that Russians built strong nation and country during the centuries because they have always had inclination and tendency to unite and preferred to die rather than to be conquered?

So please tell me why Estonians, Latvians, and Lithuanians are three different countries though etnically they are quite the same? Why former Slav's princedoms united and became strong (together as one) and your bitter countries not?

So please don't cry and remember that USSR does not exist anylonger so you have nobody to blame)))

And please remember that strong ones are never cry. Take a look to Serbs. They were bombed by NATO during 78 days and did not surrender. This is the thing that makes Nation from just crowd of people.
