What about the Taiwanese products? Are these products better than Chinese? On average it's considered more prestigious.

Taiwan is the most specific country for tech products to be assembled in. Many computers, desktop phones and other home electronics are "Assembled in Taiwan", but no news about textiles though.

Is it only South Wales that enjoys these facilities or the entire country is subject to that?Well, bear in mind that land/rent, taxes and wages are all high in the UK too... It is not only South Wales that has these schemes, but it is not the whole country. Certainly Cornwall had some incentives, and I think some of the northern mining/dock towns too.

Almost every fashion label of the top brands is either manufacturing its products in Asia or thinking of doing that.
First of all, let's clarify what outsourcing is. Outsourcing is subcontracting a process, such as product design or manufacturing, to a third-party company. Why companies outsource? Companies outsource in order to make their brands competitive on the market in the matter of costs. The point is that people's trend is to save more and more money on the products/goods/gadgets they buy, while producers can't afford that because the production costs are very and very high. Now, what do we have in Asia? First of all, of course, it is the cheap labour force. Everybody knows that. For the Chinese, an average European salary of 2,000 euros will be more than enough to live about 4 months. Second, it's the cheap energy. China has a lot of coal resources which make them be, more or less, independent and have little prices for energy. What is the disadvantage of outsourcing. The disadvantage of outsourcing is that once a factory moves to Asia, it's primary, best quality becomes less trustworthy. Everybody knows China's reputation in the matter of quality. The question is: should Europeans accept things as they happen and start getting used to Asian quality?

Europe is not obliged to accept anything of this. But the quality issue is not the consumer's problem. As if they won't like the quality, it is the company's problem of losing its clients.

Quote:The question is: should Europeans accept things as they happen and start getting used to Asian quality?I think this is already happening. People are buying "disposable fashion." A girl can buy a new outfit for under £10 - if it goes out of fashion or breaks, she just buys something else the following week. I used to expect a pair of shoes to last over six months, now I am lucky if they last six weeks :fi

In the matter of clothing, I think Europeans still prefer European products. But, cheap European stuff is a good idea as well. That's because the fashion changes quickly and you don't need lasting clothing and can change it for a little amount.
