#51
croatia and iceland next....montenegro and serbia after....bosnia herzegovina and fyrom next...albania and kossovo after.....then possibly norway, switzerland the microstates (under special status).....perhaps moldova...the rest european states is a bit difficult and tricky situation.....turkey and the causacus area want to join, but they are lying in a troubled area of the world and too close to russia....ukraine is favoured by me to join, but russia will give trouble too so i am sceptical on that too.....
we fear what we do not understand,we fear the uknown,we fear what is different from us....but our greatest fear is yet unavoidable...so why do we need all others....??

so it seems it will become more and more larger... Don't you think that the more Europe extends to East/South/North the bigger are its chances to break up?

moroshan Wrote:Now, what told us Mother EU about Kosovo? It isn't a precedent! Apparently Romanians and Moldovans didn't believe it because they didn't recognize Kosovo.
The future, according to Americans and their satellites is a tribal Europe, with tiny "ethnic" powerless countries where the division can go at any scale just to satisfy the minority claims. So, if a Russian minority immigrated in the 30s in Moldova should have the right to it's own country why not Maghrebians in South of France, Hindus in the UK, Turks in Germany should have the same right. Transnistria is an even more dangerous precedent than Kosovo, because Russians are immigrants in Moldova. :x

Your thoughts are logical and correct. Russians are immigrants in Moldova, but, what shall Moldovans do about that? It's Russians' stubbornness that doesn't want to live together with Moldovans. Should they start an interior war just like Georgia and Ossetia?
I heard that Moldova expects Parliament elections the next year, so I think it's about time for the Government to do something about the separated region.

My bet is that regardless of the election results, they will not mess with the bear. Irritating the medved (bear) is always a bad idea.

So you wanna say Moldova will keep playing those jokes and the problem of that separated territory will remain unsolved? I doubt Medvedev would suddenly sign an agreement to refuse this territory and withdraw its army from there.

Your doubts are well founded. On the other hand, I don't think that Medvedev (make that Putin) really wants to hang on to the shame of the Molotov-Ribbentrop Pact as they're trying hard to wash their hands of that piece of history (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Molotov-Ribbentrop_Pact). So being an optimist, I expect a peaceful solution to be worked out with the Russians and the Ukrainians. I don't think any of the parties involved want to see any bloodshed.

I recently watched a programme on discovery channel and was interested to hear a solution for solving the problem of Moldova.
It was proposed that the right part of Moldova (the one they call Transnistria) to be given to the Ukraine, while the South-Western part of the Ukraine (named Ismail) to be given back to Moldova, so that things return as they used to be before the Molotov treaty.

I think it's a bit more complicated than that (isn't that always the case?) There are a lot of Russian immigrants in Moldova (both sides of the Dnestr) who don't want to be in Ukraine or Romania because they fear that Moldova will soon rejoin Romania. That's why it may take some fine diplomatic footwork to unravel this ball of ethnic yarn but I hope it will be done without anymore "armored columns of Cossacks" like in Lebed's time. I think Medvedev+Putin are much better at settling conflicts than Lebed whose plane fell out of the sky in such a ... err... timely manner. The Georgia thing.... well... I don't think anyone wanted to see that debacle happen other than Saakashvili who had and still has delusions of ... adequacy.

not necessarily...the west balkans will join...the EEA/EFTA countries should join....the rest i am not sure and not crazy on the idea....and i am not so sure that our leaders are all convinced....there are some like miliband that call for EU to allow all middle east and north africa in....but germany, france and austria, and loads of other countries do not want even turkey....so i guess their accession, and furthermore any other middle eastern country's accession will not be taken so lightly....they know that they cannot overstrech EU and they know that people are having enough and and becoming sceptical....so they will think twice before doing anything like that....i hope....

It's not necessary that a country joins EU at a certain date at once. A country should be prepared for that, so it can become a member step by step, by introducing different modern measures within the country. The country should firstly be ready to join the EU economicly.

I didn't mean to consider the econmoic part us the only one that really matters. I believe EU first of all is a union from the social point of view.

The Former Yugoslav Republic of Macedonia (FYROM) are trying to get EU membership. The problem is they have put their application for membership under the Republic of Macedonia when Greece's northern provence has been Macedonia for over thousands of years. oops

tensions between the conservative party and Macedonia's largest ethnic Albanian party DUI have always existed.

FYROM seem to step on their neighbours feet. This wont get them votes into the EU.
They have become anti Albanian, anti Serb, anti Greek, anti Bulgarian and very pro George Bush USA.
