girl. she used to to taekwon do. but now she is feeling out of shape and wants to do a sport. she is already doing soccer and softball but that isn't a good enough workout. preferably a sport that is year round that it isn't too late to start now but any suggestions are great.
sorry, thanks for the suggestions though but i don't want to swim. also could you include your personal experiences with that sport?

Swimming!! its year round because you can do it indoor and its great cross training for other sports because it works all parts of your body.

Horseback riding lessons are great! Caution: she may want a horse after this! You could also get her into an aerobics class, or purchase an instructional DVD to get her going at her own discretion. NO PEEKING !!!!!!

i would go for xc (long distance running) you can do it on a team, or with your family. it is really fun because you can go in all these cool races with other people, improve, and it is definitely something to be proud of. I ran xc the last two falls, and i love it, (though my other sport love is cheerleading) it is fun and you can get into it with a friend. this sport is a sport you can do all your life, and still progress, in a couple months, i really got better. it is really fun, an amazing workout, and gets your legs in good shape.
please, don't be intimidated by running long distance. the good thing is when you start, you can start by just running a slow mile with a friend, and just progressing by adding speed and going further.
i love this sport, it makes me feel proud of myself, races are really fun too, because it is more about a self goal or time than getting "first" and such, and you don't have to worry about all the pressure of running around a track while people glare at you, you can run in beautiful places, like the woods, on a mountain... and those times when you can't get out, you can hop on a treadmill. :-)
