In France, is it possible to get a job with little French?
#1
As a foreign student speaking English and a little French, is it possible for me to get a part time job in France? If yes, what kind of job can I get?
Any opinion or idea would help. Thank you very much in advance!
I am not from the US nor an EU citizen. I actually have a considerable knowledge of the language -studied it for 5 years- but I have problems speaking it.

If you´re from the UK - yes.

If you´re not - no.

Only you know what kind of job you might possibly qualify for.

My nephew spent the whole of last year working in France on different farms. His French improved dramatically. It was unpaid work but you live with the family so it costs you nothing to live. Sorry I cannot remember the website he used but there was always work available.

Take a look at http://www.seasonworkers.com/summerjobs ... rance.aspx this is not the site he used but it has lots of info.

Your post is from the USA.
Yes, it is possible, but I am afraid that with only very little French, it will not be be easy.

I do wish people would not suggest "English teacher" to anyone who does not speak another language. How can you teach if you cannot explain the intricacies of language and grammar in the foreign tongue?
In any case due to the fact that, as a citizen of the EU, any British person can settle freely in France, the country is awash with Brits that can teach English privately or who bag any post that requires an English speaker. As for teaching in a school, one has to have recognised teaching qualifications endorsed by the French Ministry of Education or have come through university channels as an English speaking assistant.
You do not say what kind of student you are. If you have been given a student visa and are attending a school or university recognised by the French Sécurity Sociale, you are allowed to work part time. Finding a job will not be easy as, unless you are prepared to do menial tasks, the level of unemployment in France at the moment is extremely high with numerous candidates chasing the few jobs that come up. You might find something like working in a Mac Donald, waitressing in the evenings, kitchen help, looking after children whilst their parents are working out of school hours, cleaning lady for an agency, that sort of thing. In a university town you will be in competition with many other students who are in the same position as yourself but speak better French. If you are studying or attending lectures in the day, perhaps an evening receptionist in a hotel, but there again you would be in competition with EU nationals.
If what you want is to spend time in France to improve your French without being registered with a university or a recognised scholastic establishment, and it does not matter where you go in France, your best option would be an Au Pair job arranged through a specialised agency. That way you have a roof over your head, and a small but guaranteed income. Likewise, if you like outdoor life, you could do some work for one of the volunteering organisations that help farmers or help on specific restauration projects, and you would be provided with shelter and food.
Good luck!
