NH4Cl dissociates into --< NH4+ + Cl-

The NH4+ ion is the conjugate acid of a strong base, NH3, and is therefore a weak acid
The presence of the ion causes the solution to be slightly more acidic than neutral, accounting for the pH of 5.0
