Causes of Teeth and Gum Disease
#1
People suffering from diabetes and smokers are more prone to experiencing these problems than others. It goes without saying that teeth and dental care should be a priority for this group of people, more so than for non-smokers for example. The only way to care free gums is keeping a healthy and hygienic daily dental care routine.

Along with other obvious health problems, smoking causes, as said before, extensive damage to your teeth. Cease using tobacco products and within a few weeks your teeth will look brighter, whiter and healthier, provided that you will brush regularly with suitable tooth care products. There are great toothpastes and mouth washes on the market aimed specifically at (ex-)smokers.

How sensitive are your gums?
Periodontal disease develops when inflammation and infection destroys tissue that support teeth, including gums, periodontal ligaments and alveolar bone. Gingivitis can be prevented and treated. Although factors such as medication and a low immune system makes you more susceptible to the development of this disease, the most common cause is poor oral hygiene. Rinsing with mouthwash and cleaning with dental floss or a professional cleaning, by a physician specialist, can significantly reduce the risk of developing the disease. If you already have gingivitis, a teeth cleaning, done by a doctor, can fix the problem.

Causes
Gingivitis begins together with bacterial plaque. This invisible film -bio film- is usually composed of bacteria deposited on the teeth, when the starches and sugar in food interact with bacteria, usually found in our mouth.
Brushing removes plaque, but it is submitted again in less than 24 hours. The microbial plaque that remains on your teeth more than two or three days hardens, making it into tartar, a white substance that makes the plaque to be more difficult to remove and which is a really reservoir for bacteria.

The bad part is that already formed tartar can be hardly removed by brushing and cleaning with dental floss. Most likely, have to go to a dental surgery to remove the tartar. The more plaque or tartar are on tooth surface, the more irritates the upper gums, underlying teeth. Over time, the gums will swell and will bleed easily.
Although microbial plate is by far the most common cause of gingivitis, there may be other factors:
Medication. Some medicines contain ingredients that diminish the amount of saliva. Because saliva has a cleansing effect and inhibit the multiplication of bacteria, this means that the plaque and tartar can makes easily;

Viral infections. Although bacteria are responsible for the development of gingivitis, the viral infections can also affect your gums. The gumsstomatitis herpes acute, for example, is an infection caused by a herpes virus, which generally leads to inflammation and small sores in mouth;

Other diseases and conditions. Some conditions not necessarily associated with mouth area can affect your gums. People affected by leukemia may develop gingivitis when leukemia cells invades the gums tissue, for example;

Hormonal changes. During pregnancy, your gums will retain microbial plate easier. And If you have and morning nausea, you will be more difficult to brush your teeth regularly;

Inadequate nutrition. A diet with low calcium, vitamin C and vitamin B, may lead in time to periodontal disease. Calcium is important because helps strengthen bones, including bones that support your teeth. The recommended daily dose is 1200 mg / 1500 mg. Vitamin C keeps the integrity of connective tissue. It is also a powerful antioxidant that removes the effect of destruction of tissues by free radicals - substances produced when the oxygen is metabolized by your body. You can have a deficiency of vitamin C if you smoke, if you have a diet low in this vitamin or a food disorder, such as anorexia on nervous system.

Complications

An untreated gingivitis can develop into a periodontal, and a more serious disease of the gums. Periodontal can lead to tooth loss and increased risk of heart attack. And more, there is a risk for women who have periodontal to give birth prematurely.

What treatment we follow?

The first step in treating gingivitis is: a full cleaning of teeth and removing of plaque and tartar. Cleaning procedure can be uncomfortable, especially if your gums are very sensitive. Gingivitis is gone after a professional cleaning, if you continue to have good oral hygiene, once you left the dentist's office. At first, the gums might bleed after each brushing, but this, normally lasts few days. If you will have a rigorous program of cleaning the teeth, you will notice how your gums will return to normal color.

Prevention
The best way to prevent gums inflammation is a rigorous oral hygiene. This means brushing your teeth at least twice a day morning and evening, before you go to bed-, to rinse with mouthwash after every brush and to clean your teeth with floss at least once per day. And better, you can brush your teeth after every meal or snack. Normally, for brushing to be effective, must last from 3 minutes to 5 minutes. If you "call" to the floss, you'd better do it after brushing, to make sure that you will remove any food debris or bacteria.

Tips for healthy gums

Choose the right toothbrush. Brushes have to be soft, not to injures your gums. Toothbrush should have a size and form, so that lets you clean the entire surface of teeth. It should be noted that, only the tip of pear trees cleans the teeth, so no need to press with force the toothbrush. Replace your toothbrush once every 3-4 months or more often. If brushes are scattered, is a sign that you have waited too long. Some dentists recommend electric toothbrush because they are more effective in removing food debris and plaque microbial. In addition, electrical toothbrushes are helpful for people suffering from arthritis or Parkinson's. However, there is no need to spend a fortune on expensive toothbrushes, when a simple brush can be as effective if you use it properly.

How we brush?
Brushing is not effective if is not done properly. Here are some tips: To clean the outside of your teeth and gums, make short moves forward-back and then down-up. For cleaning the teeth on the inside, make vertical movements. To clean the spaces between your teeth, you brush at 45 degrees to teeth.

More attention to the brushing process, than to type of toothpaste. Some manufacturers claim that their tooth paste removes microbial plaque and tartar or kill the bacteria which develop the plaque. Truth is, any toothpaste removes microbial plaque if you clean your teeth properly. Anti-tartar toothpastes have, indeed, the advantage to prevent re-submission of tartar.
Conclusion? When used properly, even toothpastes with fluoride relatively inexpensive removes plaque as good as special pasta;

Use dental floss. Most of us ignore this part of cleaning teeth, because as we all recognize, is a tedious task. Recent studies show that we obtain the same result if you rinse your teeth with antiseptic mouthwash after each brushing. Antiseptic mouthwash is effective because it contains essential oils that kill germs, that toothbrush may "escapes". Mouthwash is more effective if is regular combined with dental floss and brushing.
Consult your dentist. Besides daily brushing, floss and mouthwash, it is important to present yourself to the doctor regularly.

Parkinsons disease patients are also said to have some of the worst dental problems due to weakened hand to mouth mobility, as well as loss of ability to brush. This is why they are advised to up their oral hygiene and visit the dentist more often.
