First of all, many of you do not know Georgian hystory and hystory of civilisation of Europe.
Originally osetians came in this region in the mid ages, when they were running from mongolians in Caucasus region..these osetionas settle down in the part of Georgian principality of Samachablo (Machabeli is a georgian Surname)..After that most of them became Chrisitians because of influence of Christian orthodox Georgia and Byzantie.
Soon this teritory was named Samachablo ..
In 1801 year when russia occupied Kingdom of Georgia, they occupied Samachablo as well...
Between 1801 and 1920 year there was made specialy north osetia , where ethinc Alans are living...
In 1921 Soviet red Army invaded Georgia..
They anounced South osetian autonomy..During 70 Years russina KGB worked hard to ensure osetians that they should be independent..
In 1990-1993 , when USSR clashes, and georgia became independent, south osetia anounced that they are independent as well..georgian troops entered the region but again with russian military help georgian army get back..along this Abkhazia announced its independence as well...I will talk about abkhazia later as well..
during 1993-2008 there is separatist regime backed by russians..separatist troops are killing georgian civilians, soldiers, etc. They are backed by Russin top government, they give them military equipment, russian peacemakers do not do their job, and just helped separatists and support them in their ilegal activities...Geogria could not do anything, because we have lot of other problems here..
In 2003 rose Revolution happened..and after that begun some activites to resolve conflict..
We offered South Ossetia Broad Autonomy In Georgia, with thei de-facto president in one of the top places in the government..Broad, free economic zone, and lot of other kind of special offers.
They rejected under pressure of Russian politikcal establishment..
in 2008 they started acts of provocation, bombing peaceful residents of that region, ethnic georgians

After 3 day, our governemnt decides to open fire as well and finally take under control the region, get back Saouth Osetia (Samachablo) under the Goergina Jurisprudence, and clean the region from the terorists separatists..
in the fisrt 2 days they did it very well..they get to the most north point of the region, an only one tunnel was left..But here Russia begin its actions and started bombing other parts of georgian teritory..They opened lots of other fronts..Georgia of course was unable to fight in 5 or more places and our tropps get back to the capital..
before the war started , 10 day earlier residents of Tskinvali left the city?Why?
Answer is simple: they knew that russia and osetioan separatists were preaparing provocation..
During war, Russia could mobilize 1200 tanks and 10 000 soldiers in one hour!!!
How can it be done, if it not specialy preapred..
After that they started bombing peaceful people in all big cities whch are out of conflict..Not bases only, they are bombinh houses, schools, hospitals!!!, red cross headquarters!!! etc..and all time killing only georgian..
Today they bombed bus in Gori, lots of people are dies..

Yes, all this sounds very logical. Only I don't think that Saakashvili's action was for the Bush administration absolutely out of the blue. He miscalculated. States are too week now with all their military misfortunes and deep in their inner problems. They wouln't plan such a thing now. Well, that's my opinion.

As a politician, he acted irresponsibly relying on a western support. He miscalculated. As to the whole population, I kind of doubt it. This was a good case for him to pull nation together - that is true, of course. But, to me, patriotism, in any form, is misleading. It makes you easy to be manipulated. What Russia did was too much - agreed on that. But he made a mistake - and his nation paid (he personally didn't). Now, whatever you say, he is dead as a politician. I'm strongly inclined to think that in a couple of months Nino Burjanidze (I hope I spell it right) will be your new leader.

I also wanted to add that, to me, a person who has a good habit of reasoning independently, always has to ask him/herself "Who will gain if I think so-and-so". Say, who will gain in case you are forced to think that the Russians are the nation of murderers? I mean, surely there are guys for whom this war is a win-win game. Well about patriotizm we can argue for a long time..
For Georgian patriotism is the most native sense...We always survived because we had huge sence of patriotism and religion..when we have these two, noone could break us..Even mongolians, arabs or Persians..
Neither russian can break us...
Now about Saakashvili..
Well on the last election he get 55 %...its means the whole majority trust him..His main goal is unite georgia..Our President adn all the populationa here want see Georgia again with Abkhazia and Osettia..
And this united georgia joining NATO..
Everyone is sure we are very close to this day...
If he makes it (unite georgia) than he is a National hero..real hero because he can make real dream of every georgian..
If he cant, everyone would say, that he has done everything he could to beat Monster Neghbour..

bring bacl means bring Osseti (Samachablo - historic name) back under georgian jursiprudence..bring back, unite georgia...Bring back Samachablo with ethnic Osetioans who want to live with us..
After that Abkhazia and ethnic Abkhazs are going to joib our united country..What de facto president says it is not a position of Abkhazian people..They cant survive if they are independetn..
so only way is with georgia..In home land of Abkhazia..

Pragmatically speaking, you are very unlikely to rise a question about this territories during VERY long time since now. This is a fact. You may try to repeat the Saakashvili scenario - this is your right. But then, again, most likely, you will lose your own country. Neither EU, nor the US will allow to to repeat this conflict again - simply because no one wants to start a Third World War because Georgians want Abkhasia back. You may not agree on that, but you'll have to live with that, believe me.
