Peace!
According to my belief, the holy fasting month of Ramadan brings opportunity to get closeness of God. It enhance righteousness and spirituality with refuge of God from evils. Acceptance of prayers is among the rewards. The traveler and the sick are asked not to fast and are commanded to fulfil the fasts when are capable. (Quran 2:184-7)
The blessed Holy Prophet said: Fasting is a shield.
How it works as shield?
i- When one makes fasting one’s shield then Allah protects that person by enabling him/her to avoid all sins and Help them to do good deeds, explains Caliph of Promised Refomer (w.alislam.org) . To have such protection one’s ear, tongue, eyes, hands and all other limbs must keep the fast too. In other words one's all body and soul should fulfill the requirements of fasting.
ii- Self checks against forbiddens act as shield, such as men and women restrain their eyes; avoid verbal aggression by saying: I am fasting; hands donot involve anything wrong even it would not serve anything which is prohibited for eating. During fasting, believers also has to avoid some permissible features to get discipline and pleasure of God ---- If a believer does not keep fast with all its conditions then Allah has no need anyone to go hungry, says the blessed Holy Prophet.
Spiritual training in Ramadan is to continue give benefits after Ramadan.Recitation and practicing Quran in Ramadan is vital part of this training. Allah told the blessed Holy Prophet that Allah Himself is the reward of fasting.
In the verses about Ramadan, at one place Allah says:
And when My servant ask thee about Me, (say) I am near. I answer the Prayer of the supplicant when he prays to Me. So they should hearken to Me and believe in Me, that they may follow the right way. (2:187)
Blesssed days of Ramadan are the opportunity to remove veil and partition between human and God in spiritual sense. The Ahmadiyya caliph reminded that during Friday Prayer / Salat Allah graciously accepts prayers. On his MTA international channel, his sermons and lectures on Quran during Ramadan continue.
